  1. Let the speed of the ball = V b. The ball travels the end of the bowling lane in time = t = 16.5/V b seconds

    Time it takes the sound of the ball hitting the pin at the end of the lane to be heard by the bowler = t s = 16.5/340 = 0.049 seconds.

    The time it takes the ball to reach the end of the lane and the time it it takes the sound to be heard by the bowler after the ball is released = 2.9 seconds

    2.9 = 16.5/V b + 0.049

    16.5 = 2.9V b - 0.049V b

    16.5 = 2.851 V b

    V b = 5.787 m/s

    The speed of the ball = 5.787 m/s
