Bowling strength justifies my place in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 squad says Captain Darren Sammy – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, the captain of the West Indian cricket team, has justified his place in the current national side, arguing that he deserves a role in the squad as a specialist medium-pace bowler.
Sammy replaced http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, but failed to make an impression in the mega event.
After a terrible World Cup campaign, the West Indian side suffered embarrassing Test and ODI series defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Since a captain should lead from the front, the dismal performance by the skipper is considered as one of the prime reasons behind West Indies’ constant failure at the highest level. Sammy holds batting averages of 16.32 and 20.30 in Tests and ODIs respectively, while his bowling strike rate is also not very impressive.
Despite having poor bowling averages of 29.28 and 44.45 in Tests and 50-over cricket respectively, the St. Lucia-born cricketer insisted that his selection in the International side is justified.
“I think I have justified my selection as a bowler in the team. My batting has obviously not been up to scratch. It’s something I have to work on. If I look at my Test record it is okay. In every team somebody will always be the fall guy. So far it’s always been me,” said Sammy.
Talking about the team’s progress under his control, the skipper stated that the side has improved a lot in every department of the game, adding that the side remained a bit unlucky in the recent International competitions.
When asked about his objective as the leader of the crew, he shared, “Obviously bringing the whole professional attitude into practice properly and getting fit [are top of the agenda]. I believe the fitter you are, the more right decisions you will make. You will not cramp up under pressure.”
Commenting on Caribbean Cricket's history of generating controversies with national players, the 27-year-old all-rounder stated that the whole cricketing culture within the county needs drastic changes, plus the cricketers should be more professional in their approach as well.
