Is there an annual bowling event or tournament considered equivalent to, say the US Open for tennis or the Superbowl for football?

I'd have to say it could be the Hoinke Classic in Cincinnati, OH, USBC Tournament at various US sites or the High Roller tournament in Las Vegas.  These three tournaments invite amateurs and professionals alike for high cash prizes and chances to make names for themselves in the bowling world, if successful.

Check bowl.com for info on the USBC and google the Hoinke Classic and High Roller as well.

Not really. There are a bunch of "major" tournaments on the PBA Tour, though. These are the PBA World Championship, the US Open, the USBC Masters, and the Tournament of Champions.
