Question:

Box turtle habitat???

if i am going to get 2 box turtles, how big should the box be. keep in mind this is an outside terrain. thanks

  1. it has to be at least a 4x4 area for one adult box turtle so an 8x8 foot habitat would be the minimum... larger would be more ideal.

    it needs to have a shaded area with a hide and a sunny area with a hide (an open log, half of a pot works well). it also needs a shallow pool of water for the turtle to soak in and deficate in that needs to be changed daily.

    you will also need a food container.

    if it gets too chilly bring your turtles inside. make sure the dirt is loose enough so they can burrow and that there are many plants for them to munch on (check the web for non toxic turtle plants) also make sure the walls are high enough that the turtle cannot get out as they are notorious climbers. also make sure that they cannot burrow under the fence either :)


  2. The larger the better.  A tortoise table can be built 4x8.  They really like to roam.  This is my favorite website for box turtle care:
