Can you all let me know what you guys know on why some boxers lived up to or surpassed their expectations (roy jones, floyd mayweather), while others have not (andre ward).

Can you let me know other boxers that have not done well in the olympics but have done great in the pros (miguel cotto).

Thanks

  1. Well from a British point of view in 2000 Audley Harrison won gold. He promised that he would become world champ. That was all bullshit. He has not lived up to what he said.

  2. its all to do with the transition of changing from a amatuer stylist to a pro, in the amatuer game you are more focused on scoring points than hurting your opponant, just looking to touch your opponants with your shots whereas in the pro game you are looking to hurt your opponant as well as your opponant trying to hurt you so in the amatuer game chins arent really put to the test and they never commit to punches often, this can be why a guy who doesnt suceed well in amatuer can make a great transition to pro because they might have a great chin and a lot of power where someone who was a great amatuer may not be a gd pro because they find it hard to put any real power behind their shots and cant cope with being hit that hard themselves, case in point audley harrison, gold medalist at the olympics but a joke in the pro game

  3. Could be a lot of reasons. I think there is an amatuer style and a professional style. Some are quitters after they lose (Ricardo Willams), Some got a lucky punch in the olympics(David Ried), Some had serious injuries (Fernando Vargas "he wasnt in the olympics but he did tryout"), and some just cant take a punch(Michael Bennet), I think Andre Ward is being brought up very slowly but he will get knocked out when he steps up. I havent heard about him fighting lately he may have already got KO'd. As far as Jones and Money you cant beat who you cant hit. Man I miss Kostya Zoo he was exciting.

  4. i can answer that very easy determination and dedication !!!

  5. It is a combination of everything that the people below me have stated and more. Let me give you some examples of some fighters who never made it to the Olympic but did very well for them selves. Mike Tyson became the youngest heavy weight champion ever Thomas Hearns One of the all time greats Ray Boom Boom Mancini a lot has to do with who is handling the fighters and a lot has to do with the fighters they get older there interest change but the armature game is totally different than the pros the pro game is for men a lot of hurt in that game. Lets pray for DIAZ I heard that he was doing better.
