I noticed almost every boxer right now only fights once a year, or twice sometimes,my question is, can they fight as much as they want to,or does a doctor tell them its too dangerous to fight more then once a year so they don't fight?

  1. I think it's because the time it takes for training for the fight. Since they're are only 12 months in a year, boxers probably train for about 3-4 months and then they have their fight and then they lay off for another month or whatever recovering and it repeats from there. Idk.

  2. Fighters nowadays are too money driven and don't like to take risks. Suckers(I mean us PPV fight fans) are paying for fights that wouldn't even make network TV back in the day. Has nothing to do with training, it's all about making the most money once you've established yourself. Why do you think De La Hoya, Jones Jr., Mosley & Hopkins are still fighting even though they haven't fought any top contenders to maintain their rankings(like in the old days)? The promoters override the rules of the sanctioning bodies and boxing today is for the causal observer, not the true fight fan. Sugar Ray Robinson(in his prime) would have mopped the floor with any fighter of the past 20 years(welter to super middle). Let's see, Archie Moore fought over 300 pro fights(recorded) and who knows how many more unsanctioned and lived into his mid 80's without any signs of brain damage(trained Big George during his comeback). Fighters are too soft nowadays, one punch and they are Jello................

  3. there are 2 reasons why they fight so little every year.

    1. health when training for a big name or marquee fight the boxers are training hard for at least 4 months in advance so 2 fights a year is 7-8 months of training per year. plus that gives swolen hands and body fatigue from occuring as often as was the case 50 years ago. when yo have a fighter drop 15-20 pounds of weight for a fight that puts a terric amount of strain on the body. plus their career last longer by fighting fewer fights and doctors can access injuries easier. If you look at the fighters of the old days they suffered horrible brain trauma and injuries but were right back in the ring a month or sometimes a week later.

    2. Money. Big name fighters can't make big time pay per view fights if they are constantly fighting because who is going to spend 50 bucks 4 times a year to see a fight. especially if the fight is against a no name because it would take a great deal of timing for block buster fight to just happen without 4-6 months of prep work and then ask for money at the end of a horrible planned PPV fight
