Different sport and different styles of fighting.  What's going to be next mma fighters going against karate champs? Naturally a boxer is at a disadvantage when fighting goes to the mat and mma fighters are at a disadvantage is it's strictly boxing.  You simply have to separate the two.

Before you can do anything else in the MMA ring, you have to first enter punching range.  As soon as the mma guy gets within arms reach, he gets knocked out every time.

It could go either way. Chuck Liddell who never take anyone to the mat, never submitted anyone was mma champion. He just KO people with his right hand, something a boxer can do.

let me break it down.  there is really no way to know just how good a boxer could fair against an MMA fighter b/c a boxer does not train for MMA. if you look at the physical conditioning of some of the boxers of the past you'll have a hard time convincing me that with some training , maybe 6months worth maybe a couple of years that they could not compete well against an MMA fighter. What if Mike Tyson in his prime boxed Tito ortiz in his prime? then a month later they had a full scale mma fight? well tyson probably wins boxing and ortiz probably wins mma but, what if tyson were trained a couple years for mma? as good as he was he would have probably whupped ortiz at that too.
