Boxing's Greatest Misses of 2011
There were a couple of great misses in boxing in 2011, which the boxers themselves as well as fans would sorely miss.
The most important one, in my analysis, was that of Mayweather’s sentencing, which could deny him the chance to prove his mettle again in the ring for a while.
Secondly, David Hay missed the chance to etch his name in the history after losing the WBA(World Boxing Association) Heavyweight title that could have earned him WBA(Super), IBF,WBO & The Ring heavyweight titles.
He created much hue and cry about the fight that was to put him in contention with the German (or Ukrainian?) World Number 1, Wladimir Klitschko. Eventually, he grabbed his money and preferred to retreat into the life of obscurity.
He did not set a good example.
The most important miss was that of Mayweather-Pacquiao much-anticipated bout, which has been marred by the boxer’s 90 day jail term.
The boxer will complete his jail term only two months before the fight, most likely against Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao. The fight was slated to be held on May, 5.
The court also ordered him to shell out a fine of $2,500 (£1,600) and serve 100 hours of community service.
Since 2002, Mayweather has been taken into custody due to various instances on charges of battery and violence cases in Las Vegas, and in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Mich.
HBO and Golden Boy Promotions have postponed the entire Morales-Garcia card due to Morales’ ailing condition.  The fight was scheduled to take place on 28 January, 2012.
It was an unusual and equally un-called-for sight. Donovan George’s promoter, Warriors Leon Margules, decided to call off the Saturday bout against Librado Andrade upon finding the ring smaller than standard. The ring they found was 15x15, which surely makes
an exceptionally small dimension.
From the standpoint of both the boxers, the decision to call off the fight was something they wanted. They both were looking forward to this fight which would pay George $32,000, and Andrade $20,000. Plus, they both had trained for months before this month.
Although it was not a good experience for both the boxers, the call-off was better to keep post-match controversies at bay.
The assessment that Adrade would have an undue advantage in the tiny ring against George is well-grounded in the fact that George is a fighter who has this penchant for moving to and fro around the ring. This is to say, he requires enough room in the ring
against his opponents.
This exceptionally small ring was bound to create problems for him.
Margules had every right reason to make such a decision before the fight. He did not want his boxer to fight in a ring that was unfavourable to him.  Had his boxer lost the fight in that tiny ring, he, as the promoter, would have been under fire.
He would have been questioned over the decision to go for the fight despite finding the size of the ring before the showdown.
HBO and Golden Boy Promotions have postponed the entire Morales-Garcia card due to Morales ailing condition.
The fight was scheduled to take place on 28 January, 2012.
Morales has ended this year’s engagements on a good note as he claimed the WBC(World Boxing Council) light welterweight title against Pablo Cesar Cano, but is marred by his tendency to sustain injuries.
Morales was admitted to hospital in an emergency state.
