  1. Most older heavy bags were in the 80-100 lb range and would move around on it's long chain and swivel, whereby, Ali would have the chance move around too, which accommodated his style. Even George Foreman and Sonny Liston, (big hitters) had the standard 80 lb. Everlast bag, but their handlers, in both cases, d**k Saddler, would need to hold the bag to keep it stationary. Rocky Marciano, who happened to be much smaller than the two previous guys used a bag or two, custom made by Benlee of NYC  that was way over-sized. Twice the diameter of ordinary 14 " x 48 " bags. which weighed closer to 200 lbs. than 100 lbs. He would often duck under the bag to emphasize his ability to bob and weave and stay low. This type bag didn't move and Marciano then had  a stationary Target to work on. Later, his trainers would string the bag up horizontally so Rocky could stand and work on uppercuts,etc. Today, the uppercut bag has become a popular style bag in most gyms. Remember, a bag is use to work your opponent, therefore, it's better that it you have a choice of a 80 lb bag which will swing around readily, or a bag closer to 125-150 that will stay put for your body work.
