This year we have witnessed the following:

1) Rafael Marquez vs. Israel Vazquez III

2) Juan Manuel Marquez vs. Manny Pacquiao II

3) Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito

4) Joel Casamayor vs. Michael Katsidis

5) Kelly Pavlike vs. Jermaine Taylor I

6) Kermit Cintron vs. Antonio Margarito II

and we have yet to witness the following:

7) Juan Diaz vs. Michael Katsidis

8) Joel Casamayor vs. Juan Manuel Marquez

9) Nate Campbell vs. Joan Guzman

10) Kelly Pavlik vs. Bernard Hopkins

11) Joe Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones Jr.

12) Paulie Malignaggi vs. Ricky Hatton

I know the year is not over, but solely on the basis of where we are in the year and what we have to look forward to, how well does 2008 rank?

  1. Nobody could beat the 2005, like:

Diego Corrales VS Jose Luis Castillo

    Manny Pacquiao VS Erik Morales

    Jorge Arce VS Hussein Hussein

  2. Well we have 3 major nominees for fight of the year this year but you can't forget some of the classics of last year including an excellent  surprise in the contender finally:

    Jaidon Codrington v. Sakio Bika

    also you had the following

    Edison Miranda v. Kelly Pavlik

    Miguel Cotto v. Shane Mosley

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. v. Ricky Hatton

    Joe Calzaghe v. Mikkel Kessler

    O'Neil Bell v. Jean-Marc Mormeck II

    Miguel Cotto v. Zab Judah

    Kermit Cintron v. Jesse Feliciano

Marco Antonio Barrera v. Juan Manuel Marquez

    David Diaz v. Erik Morales

Ricardo Mayorga v. Fernando Vargas -turned out to be a great fight

Oscar de la Hoya v. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. -

    Michael Katsidis v. Czar Amonsot

No doubt this year is great but last year was excellent as well...this is the perfect time to be a boxing fan. I think just recently promoters have realized that they need to work together and all these great fights are the results. I think we'd have to go clear back to the Sugar Ray Leonard or Roberto Duran days of boxing to get the mega fights that we have been getting lately in the lighter divisions.
