I need to know about professional boxing in the 1940's, specifically the years 1946-1949.

I also need to know all about the fashion, slang, drugs, everything from the American 40's.

Can anyone help?

  1. film's such as "raging bull" will give you a glimpse into boxing in the 40's.

jake lamotta, ray robinson, joe louis, willie pep and sandy saddler were all world champions during that period.

although steroids were in use in the '40s, i can't think of any cases involving boxers during those days.

when boxers went on tv to promote an upcoming fight, they behaved themselves with dignity and respect for their opponent....even if they were in a grudge match

slang changes from city to city, and culture to culture.

there was some corruption during those days, with boxers being managed by the mob or mafia....for more on the corrupt side of the sport, read " boxing babylon" by nigel collins.

there was only one champion per division in those days, and only the 8 original divisions were universally recoginsed.

madison square garden in new york was THE venue for boxing.
