Question:

Boxing Question- How do I improve my Jab, Cross combination?

I have a two part question to my question. Typically when I throw the 1-2, I incorporate head movement with it. So I slip to the right when throwing the Jab and I slip to the left throwing the Cross. However I notice this takes away from my speed of delivery. So do you think I should throw the Jab, Cross straight without head movement for speed, or should I angle off for defense?

My second question is the best way to land the Jab, Cross on certain types of fighters. Those who keep charging at you, yeah, it is easy to land the 1-2, but I fight usually counter-punchers. I think the best way perhaps is to move in with a quick Jab and land a hard Cross, but I wanted you guys to help me out to decide. Ten points guranteed to the most thorough and helpful answer. Thanks!

  1. dont move you head.

turn you body with the right and step with the jab

  2. go to a boxing gym and work with a trainer there is no other way to get better

  3. Dont move your head when you jab, but when you throw the cross or strait right then you want to move your head. Don't forget to mix it up eaiter, If everytime you throw a right cross and move your head to the left a good trainer will see it and tell his fighter where your head is going to be when you throw the punch.

You will be horribly telegraphing your punches.

Jab,Jab,Jab...remember the most important aspect of the jab is to set off the timing of your opponent but also to obscure your opponents vision so he doesn’t see the cross or right coming at him.

I prefer to follow the jab with the strait right hand when im boxing orthodox.

And as for tips on fighting counter punchers....man....I wish I knew. They are difficult to fight because they wait on you all the time, so they are always at the ready to counter.

The best thing to do against them is to circle to there jabbing hand. Move the opposite way of his power hand.

Another trick I use, or used i should say, was to leave an opening for them, Know where they are going to counter you and counter them back.

For instance leave your left hand low when your throw the right, He will see it and try to counter punch you in the unprotected area. But if you set it up like that then you know where he is going to throw and you counter him.

If you hit harder them him, rush him, counter punchers fight best at arms length, stay on the outside and pop shot them or rush them and get inside.

Counter punching is the most effective form of boxing in my opinion. Im a pressure counter puncher, which means I rush in but dont throw till they do and miss and then I counter.

If your throwing the cross correctly your head is going to move anyways.
