Boxing Question- How to Improve my style? boxers/boxing trainers only please?

Ok, well I'm an Outside Fighter, very similar to Muhammed Ali's style, utilizing the Jab, Cross. However, I'm starting to realize my style is not terribly effective because it is based on two punches- the Jab and the Cross. Here are the combos I typically use when boxing:

1-2 (Jab, Cross)

1-1-2 (Jab, Jab, Cross)

1-2-3-2 (Jab, Cross, Left Head Hook, Cross)

and 4, 3, 2 (Right Uppercut, Left Head Hook, Cross [For boxers who like to move in and duck])

Yet I feel I'm doing something wrong, because I don't land much. So I'm looking for good advice and suggestions, for example- should I move up and down to the body to confuse the opponent? (Like throwing a Jab to the Body and a Cross to the head?) or should I maybe do something more aggressive combination wise. Tell me works for you guys. I appreciate your input, thanks!

  1. Yeah, the info you've provided is helpful, but doesn't tell enough to give really good advice.  A good trainer or fighter in person could propably do wonders for you.  That said, mixing shots to the head and body is nearly always beneficial/effective and tends to create more openings as your opponents now has to protect the his head and body, and not just his face.  The jab and cross are fundamental to boxing and should be the used far more than other punches.  Timing is a huge factor for landing punches, you can throw punches always day long, doesn't mean you'll hit anything.  Timing your punches based on how your opponent is moving his head, body and of course fists will most likely help increase your accuracy.  Work on slipping and parrying punches and/or counter punching.  Throwing punches in bunches is essential, but if you're only threowing to the face, and your opponent is doing well to block them or move out of their path then it's pointless.  Take your time, pick your shots better, and with more experience and training with people who know what they're doing and you will almost definitely see improvement.  I hope this helps some.

  2. I don,t believe this is a real question coming from a real boxer who is your trainer if what you are doing is not effective you need to do something else . Just telling us you throw 1 2  and 112  3  that means nothing to us  or anyone else keep sparing until you find out what works best for you. Here is some advice get rid of your trainer
