Question:

Boxing Question about beating a Counter Puncher?

Ok, well to start off, my personal style of fighting is Outside Fighting, using the 1-2, with occasionally moving in to throw 1-2-3-2 or 1-2-3 combinations. However I have trouble fighting counterpunchers, so if anyone has advice on what to do, please send a response. Thanks!

  1. You just need to throw a powerful 1 punch to knock your opponent out and not to give him a chance to counter.

  2. an inexperienced counter puncher will always have a rhythm like when you throw a 1 he will come back with a hard right, so you would want to weave that and come back with a hard right of your own.(left if your a southpaw.) and just remember for every move theres a counter, and then theres a counter for that.

  3. well you can work on your body ryhtm and if every time you try to go at him and counters most of your punches all you can dp is let him come to you and counter his but watch out cuz he will try to bring you out with the jab and he will set you up with his power punch

  4. Sometimes counterpunchers can be predictable.  Watch how they respond to your tactics, and if they are consistent, you can out-think your opponent by feinting a particular tactic, forcing a predictable response, then go for the big shot.

  5. e faster and don't give him an opening. work hard on closing all gaps by being a very defensive fighter. If you fight from a distance use that to your advantage and don't let your opponent get close enough to land a counter punch. use your jab to keep him away and if he gets too close slam him with a strait cross followed by a upper-cut or hook.

  6. Being that you are an outside fighter, you are getting into a counter punchers realm by moving in with 1-2-3-2 combinations.. if you are not very good with that, a good counter puncher will most likely nullify your first couple of punches by countering with hook shots.

probably the best way to fight a counter is to feel out the boxer first and see if you can get a pattern for the shots he makes in his counters, otherwise, you can also use feints to open them up to counter shots as well.. in the end, the best way to beat a counter puncher is counter punch them back effectively.

also, jabbing is a good tool as well, but double the jabs to be more effective in setting up openings against the counter puncher.
