Boxing Update: Cain Velasquez is dominating MMA Heavyweight Power Rankings
The toughest and the unbeaten, Velasquez remained the benevolent one to take away the title of No. 1 boxer by mixed martial arts (MMA). He is been awarded this title for his fabulous victory over Brock Lesnar in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 121.
Cain maintained his fantastic record of never been defeated in his entire MMA career. He appeared in eight UFC fights and won all of them. Besides that, he won seven of the fights through knockout. Isn’t it impressive?
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed martial arts MMA promotion company based in the United States that hosts most of the top-ranked fighters in the world and produces numerous events worldwide.
Cain Velasquez Is a Mexican American. He is a mixed martial artist and the current UFC Heavyweight Champion. To fulfil his desire to be a mixed Martial Artist, he joined American Kickboxing Academy. Being a former student of the academy, he is rendering
his valuable services to the academy as a trainer. He currently holds a purple belt under Dave Camarillo. He has notable wins over most of the very competent boxers like Cheick Kongo, Ben Rothwell, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Brock Lesnar. His toughest fight
to date was against Cheick Kongo at UFC 99.
Brock Edward Lesnar is an American mixed martial artist and a former professional and amateur wrestler. He is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion. Lesnar started a career in mixed martial arts and won his first fight in June 2007. Lesnar is the owner of many
titles and he gave his best output in defending those titles.
When Lesnar decided to have his next defence against undefeated top contender, Cain Velasquez for UFC 121, at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, it was great opportunity for Cain to prove himself to the world. The day of October 23, 2010 was of very
great superiority for both MMA champions.
The fighting of both champions created a do or die scene, because at one end Velasquez was a champion with unbroken chain of success and at other end, Lesnar was defending his title.
Early on, Lesnar came inside very aggressively, clinching with his opponent and landing a nice knee and some grazing punches. From there, Lesnar achieved a strong takedown.
Lesnar then pressed his opponent against the cage wall. Lesnar briefly gets him down but Cain gets right back up and breaks. Another takedown eventually happened, but Velasquez got up easily again. Lesnar landed some decent punches but Cain then took him
down. Lesnar moves in for a shot and Cain drops him with a punch.
After being crushed very badly, Lesnar got to his feet only to eat another flurry of punches that put him on his back again. Several punches on the ground later, the referee was then forced to stop the fight when all a bloodied Lesnar could do was cover
up.
Finally, Brock Lesnar, former UFC heavyweight champion surrendered his title to challenger Cain Velasquez in a bloody first-round technical knockout.
Lesnar and Cain remained the cash cows, as their fight generated a record revenue, also the match was watched by a record number of viewers. The fight drew a 1.03 household rating, an average audience of 1.5 million viewers, and a peak of 1.64 million. The
game scored the eighth highest attendance of the UFC's 20 events so far this year and scored the biggest attendance of the organization's three California-based events. Overall, UFC 121 was a hugely successful.
Fastening the UFC heavyweight title belt around his waist was never Velasquez's primary goal. He wants to keep this belt for a long time. He is not looking to keep it for one fight. For this purpose, he seems to be very confident to defend the title in his
upcoming fights.
