Boxing Update: Floyd Mayweather Accuses Manny Pacquiao of Taking Performance Enhancing Drugs
Manny Pacquiao says “Mayweather is scared”, Mayweather says Manny is “Easy work.” Who will win?!
The fight that has yet to take place; people can’t seem to get enough of the idea “Manny Pacquiao Vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.” To make a comparison between the two would not be fair, both are two hard-hitting boxers; however, both come from two opposite backgrounds.
Manny Pacquiao comes from an extremely poor background with no boxing background what so ever. He was born in the Philippines and left home by the age of 14. He started boxing at the age of 16 after his close friend Eugene Barutag died, who was also a boxer. Manny decided to take boxing as professional sport and a possible career.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the son of former welterweight boxer Floyd Mayweather Sr. Floyd Jr. was considered as the #1 boxer for pound for pound boxing in the world before he retired. He holds the title of winning the following championships:
WBC World Super featherweight twice,
IBO, IBF and WBC World Welterweight twice,
WBC, IBA and The Ring Lightweight Championship.
Moreover, Floyd Mayweather Jr is still considered number one by many magazines, as he is still undefeated, to date, with a record of 41 wins and 25 by knockout. Whilst Pacquiao has played total of 56 professional fights and has won 51 with 38 knockouts, 3 loses and 2 draws. Although when coming to winning different division titles, Manny leaves Floyd behind.
Given below is the list of Manny’s titles, to date:
WBC Emeritus Champion,
WBC World Super Featherweight Champion,
WBC Diamond Champion,
WBO Super Champion,
WBC World Lightweight Champion,
IBO World Junior Welterweight Champion,
IBF World Junior Featherweight Champion,
The Ring World Junior Lightweight,
The Ring World Featherweight Champion and
WBC World Flyweight Champion.
Meanwhile, the current Filipino champion and legendary American can’t resist passing derogatory comments against each other. When talked to Floyd Mayweather Jr about his take on the match, Floyd didn’t hesitate on making bold statements like "Can Manny Pacquiao beat me? No, absolutely no. Easy win easy fight."
The fight between the two was planned on to take place in March 2010 at Nevada, Las Vegas. but was postponed due to the accusations made against Manny Pacquiao by Mayweather Sr. The latter was vocal about his assumption as he said in an interview that Manny Pacquiao’s remarkable exhibit were definitely assisted by him taking performance enhancing drugs. Which lead the plot to a whole new controversy between the two boxers.
Manny Pacquiao filed a lawsuit against Mayweather, seeking damages costing more than $75,000. Manny said that he felt insulted and that Mayweather’s camp has ruined his clean reputation. Pacquiao stated that his reason to reject the test was because of the offensive allegations made by the Mayweather’s camp and to take the test would be against his beliefs.
Pacquiao later released a statement apologizing to his fans:
"I want to apologize to my fans all over the world that these unfortunate and unfounded statements have been made against me for taking some type of performance enhancement drugs"
Later to which Manny’s promoter Bob Arums added that; he wasn’t surprised that Mayweather destroyed the idea of the fight before it even happened, he probably didn’t want to lose. Now the fight is still under the clouds as the faceoff between the two has supposedly been moved to November 2010; dates are yet to be confirmed as negations are still going on. The estimate of the long awaited fight is to gross up to $250 million dollars.
Mayweather is demanding a 60-40 split for the fight, in result which Pacquiao’s advisor said “It's not all about money to Manny. No. 1, they have made some statements that are very detrimental and that have harmed Manny. Even with a full retraction, I don't think that the damage can be resolved." This whole dispute has been going on for more than a year and half now and both of the contenders are making millions without even actually fighting.
Who will win? Statistically it’s impossible to tell as Manny might have lost two matches; his wins over shadow his previous defeats and has more experience than Mayweather. While on the other hand Mayweather physically outstands him standing two inches taller than Manny and is still undefeated.
Saying who would win is impossible, we will only know when they actually decide on going heads up against each other and cut the drama.
