  1. I am a boxer and I love MMA.now im not saying that MMA is better because I love both.I hate when people are aways compraing the two when they are completely different its like comparing apples and oranges they both have their pros and cons.I think one thing that boxing has over MMA is that its an olympic sport.you wont see two guys on the ground punching each other and elbowing in beijing will we now.and on the otherhand i think one of the main things MMA has over boxing is that only one person as died.

  2. I'd have to say that MMA as far as being a sport is a 100% fad myself, a long lasting one, but a fad none the less.  However Mixed Martial Arts will always be practiced by serious practitioners long after the fad has fallen off the radar.  My Team "Team Bushi" has been around way longer than this fad we study and practice various art forms and Mix them together for a more scientific approach to self-defense on the streets.  We've also had plenty of our people try "Sport MMA" out and a lot of our dudes say that sport MMA's rules are only meant for rule breakers.  Hence why the refereeing at such events sucks out loud.  It used to only be maybe a few hundred thousand nation wide in America that even cared to study and practice things like jujitsu and now all of a sudden because of T.V. it seems every one is either a practitioner or a wanna-be zen master.  Every kid in our neighborhood talks a big game until we put them in front of the heavy bag and say show us your boxing stance or a good 25 degree jujitsu stance then they stand there all pidgeon toed and we all laugh our asses off at the fakes.  It's pure fad man and nothing but ..... T.V. and Zuffa entertainment's getting a lot of wanna-be's heads kicked in on the streets for sure.  Pretty sad actually because MMA whether for sport or self-defense is nothing, but practice, study and extremely hard work.

I will say that I hate to see sport MMA damaging the martial arts in general with it's "self importance" and "pride" which completely goes against what the martial arts are really about.

  3. Both can exist and do fine.  Heck, there was recently a half boxing half mma show in Las Vegas.

MMA is appealing because it is more like a real fight, as you can pick a guy up and slam him and choke him out.

Boxing is good when there are two guys trying to be aggressive.

  4. There was a worry that things like UFC would take over boxing but already we're seeing that UFC's appearing to be a fad...probably more so in the UK.

Personally, I'm more of a boxing fan but I've watched a fair few UFC fights and it's rare to see much technique or skill. Most fighters opt for the "ground and pound" (if that doesn't conjure up homo-erotic images I don't know what will) where whoever's on top punches the opponent repeatedly in the face. If you watch Japanese wrestling, not the staged variety but the sport, you'll know what I mean by skill as in applying various locks, holds, submissions etc.

I see a regular occurrence of fighters continuing to hit the opponent even after it's obvious that the guy's unconscious which I really have a problem with.

There also seems to be a lack of sportsmanship in the fights that I've seen whereas in boxing you can pretty much guarantee that both boxers will come together at the end of a match to congratulate or console one another and acknowledge the trainers.

I except that many UFC fighters are talented and good in the Octagon, have trained hard to get there but personally I don't find them as entertaining as a good boxing match. If I wanted to see fights like that, I'd go into any major city and stand outside a pub or bar and wait for a scrap to kick off.

On another note, the build of some of the fighters on UFC causes me to think how accurate and often doping tests are carried out...just look at their traps, it's just not natural.

Give me a good boxing match any day!

  5. are you crazy!? mma is taking over and boxing is taking the back burner baby!!!

  6. BOXING IS JUST USING YOUR ARMS TO TAKE DOWN OPPONENT. MMA IS BOXING COMBINED WITH SUBMISSIONS/CHOKE HOLDS/WRESTLING/KARATE ETC.....THEREFORE THERE IS MORE SKILL COMBINED. IF MIKE TYSON WAS SO BAD THEN WHY DIDN'T HE EVER JOIN THE MMA?

  7. I couldn't agree with you MORE!!!!! Finally, someone who thinks the same way I do about MMA!!!! Sure these guys are tough but could they last 6-12 rounds, standing on their toes throwing constant punches? These guys forget that when u go down in Boxing, you HAVE TO get up before a 10 count or its over! Half the time I watch MMA or UFC, they're on the mat dry humping each other and on occasion throwing a punch! Step into a boxing ring and see how long these "fighters" would last!
