Boxing lessons without competition?

is it normal to just take boxing lessons and learn the same techniques and how to throw punches, block, etc. without going against other fighters?

  1. Okay, "you just wanna kick other peoples asses on the street?" In the gym, at least the one, I went to, we were taught NOT to "kick other peoples asses on the street". Y'know, depending on what state you're in, your hands are considered "lethal weapons". Meaning, if you got caught somehow, you'd be in a LOT of trouble.


  2. Well, what's the point?  There's other ways to get in shape if you don't want to box.  But, just get the techniques down, then try some sparring to the body only and some drills with a partner until you get comfortable enough to spar.  When your adrenaline gets going it doesn't really hurt if that's what you're worried about.  It might be good for you to know how to defend yourself one day and the only way to really know what you're made of is to go against another fighter.

    Don't you want to get a taste for the glory?  See what it tastes like.
