Ok, basically, I need some opinions and advice on what I should do to improve my boxing hand speed. I'm a heavyweight boxing trainer/boxer, and my punches used to be very fast and accurate, but I've slowed down since then. I know so method is using hand weights, but I wanted to see what else you guys can come up with. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. do exactly what you did before to get your hands moving quickly when you were fighting. there are no short cuts

  2. try doing sprints to increase core speed in your body, the more your body can operate without having to stop and breath the faster you will be

  3. This last guy doesnt know what the h**l he is talking about!

There is only one way to improve hand speed, and that is to enlarge the count of Type II(fast twitch) muscle fibers in your arms and shoulders. Every one has TYpe I(slow twitch) and Type II fibers in every muscle. Faster guys have more fast twitch fibers. However, you can actually make a Type I fiber act like a Type II fiber, buy doing everything with speed. You want to especially focus on plyo metric exercises.

  4. If your arms got too big/bulky that might have slowed you, focus on target exercises that focus on the biceps/triceps only (barbell curls and dips, pushups etc. for tricep) so you can get more cut and less size.  For using hand weights do full motions, let your arm down all the way and flex all the way up half-curls will cause your muscle to grow improperly..dips, pushups are good for tricep-targetting and do pull-ups, barbell curls as alternatives to hand weight

  5. Sorry bro they are all wrong, if you are a boxer, you already know, you should not work on speed speciffically, many boxers who focus on speed put as much emphasis into pulling thier punch back as they do in the delivery itself, hence, they aquire speed with no power, could also lead to a tendancy for your punches to fall short.Try this, hold 3 pound sledge hammers in your hand and hit the counter ball, you will feel slow and awkward initially, I guarentee in two weeks, you will be able to stand in front of your heavy bag and rip off a sweet three punch combination, straight left, straight right, left hook with more speed and power than ever before. good luck

  6. jimmyz24 is right, do a lot of hand speed drills.  Get on the bag or double end bag and punch for speed, no power in these punches.  When you get the speed down, then you can add power.
