Question:

Boxing training at home?

Having never boxed at 21 years old, I was wondering what boxing sessions would include? I want to learn to box, but only for fun / self defense (I never plan on fighting in the streets or in competition), and I honestly think I can do it at home. I have gloves, my father who spars lightly with me 1-2 times per week, youtube instruction, a homemade heavy bag, headgear, etc etc, and I don't know if going to class would really be worth it considering the 100$ month price. So, I'm just wondering what the class would include?

  1. there is a boxing section on here, they might be able to help you more, just a thought

  2. Shadow Box and Jump Rope, always keep your hands up. ........theres some basics for you.

  3. Thats like saying, "I'm have all of Kanye's CDs and I am his number one fan, but i never heard any of his songs." Not the best example, but just because you have equipment, doesn't mean you can teach yourself how to box. You need a QUALIFIED INSTRUCTOR.

Just trust me, YOU CANNOT LEARN BOXING ON YOUR OWN!

A video cannot point out your flaws. And believe me, even with proper instruction, you still get flaws. Thats why you need an instructor, to point it out and help you.

  4. well im 14 and my boxing training includes learning of how to box and the technique, skipping rope, and excercises.

mine is only $30 a month.

  5. Just work on your pivot when you punch, your foot movement, and keep your hands up. Remember to break your bad habits, like leaving a hand down when you punch, etc.

Skipping a lot also helps. Also work on your combinations and hand speed.

I'm not sure what a boxing session would include, but I do kickboxing, and we go over techniques, and practice them on a heavy bag. It's always good to have a qualified, humble, courteous instructor teaching you, it'll make you feel good and get perfect technique.

  6. You should check out Title's DVD's man http://store.titleboxing.com/title-boxin...  ..... I think they give you more of a professionally based instruction than most.   Sparring with your dad is cool as h**l you're dad isn't Gary Russell is he?  I heard about that dude some years back, if he's you're dad you have one cool dad bro.  Read Gary Russell's story here: http://ballardboxing.tripod.com/id82.htm... years ago.... nothing, but pure respect for the man.

    Good luck.
