Question:

Boxing vs MMA vs Kick boxing

Friends of mine at work think a top ranked boxer would beat a top ranked MMA fighter or even a top ranked kick boxer . I keep telling them that the MMA fighter would win because he can do more while the boxer only knows how to fight on his feet. For example I think a good comparison would be floyd maywether vs chuck lidel I think chuck would kick the c**p out of him, While Mayweather may be good with his hands I think Lidel would take him to the ground and take him out. I think a boxer may have a chance against a kick boxer , but the kick boxer has the advantage of kick the legs out of his opponent. Please tell what you all think. One other question what would do more damage a boxing glove or a bare hand , I say the glove due to the extra weight. please set this straight once and for all.

  1. MMA has the advantage against a boxer and a kick boxer because of what they can do. Boxers can't block low kicks and wouldn't be able to touch the MMA fighter because a kick is longer then punch. A Kick boxers has good kicks, but when taken to the ground he is nothing and bare hand would do more damage because its harder then a glove thats ways boxers use them in matches, so they don't kill the other guy.

  2. It all depends on the skills of the fighters.

I for one have had no issues with my primarily puncher's style. Just a matter of following kicks back and getting your guy moving backwards.

For the shot, I just slash the face with my fingers and catch an eye. Once their stopped it just a matter of pounding them out.

  3. mma would win because they know all phases of combat chuck liddell is also like a foot taller and weighs about 100+ pounds on mayweather

  4. I suppose the answer would depend on what kind of combat you're talking about.  In a straight fight, a well rounded mixed martial artist takes out a boxer every time.  Compare Floyd to Sean Sherk, not Liddell, who fights fifty pounds heavier.  Sherk is a high class wrestler with fair boxing and solid BJJ.  Floyd would find his boxing skill pretty useless when he's trying to defend himself on his back.  Mayweather may be able to use a jab and his footwork to keep Sherk at bay for awhile, but the exact moment the distance closed PBF would not have a prayer.

If you're just talking about standing and striking, then it's more complicated, since kickboxers are more proficient at using all limbs as weapons, but boxers use their footwork to be more evasive and are generally stronger punchers.

Finally, a bare hand is much more damaging.  The bones in your knuckles feel a lot worse than a padded glove.  The gloves were invented for fighter safety to protect the boxers from breaking their hands when they punched someone in the ribs and head.

  5. Here is my answer, I've practiced all 3.

Boxers have the best foot work.  That is what sets them apart.  If the fight stays on the feet.  Look for the boxer to win vs. the grappler each time.

If the grappler can get inside, and get the take down he will win.

If the Muay Thai (kick boxer) fights the traditional boxer, it will be a good fight.  MT fighters don't have the foot work westen boxers do...but they have the most devastating strikes around.

A __TRUE__ MMA fighter will have a combination of skills and will be able to defeat any one-sided fighter because they will adapt and take advantage of weaknesses.

But remember----EVERYONE has a punchers chance.

  6. first of all Mayweather is a small guy compared to Chuck. the UFC does not even have the weight class for him to fight in. Second some top level MMA guys have to much pride and have to prove that they can stand with anyone. If Chuck fought a boxer do you really think he would take it to the ground. It would be smart but he might not do it. Just think about Eddie Sanchez vs Crocop. Sanchez is a brawler who tried to stand with a world class kick boxer. not smart. I know I know he wouldn't have been able to take him down. so some top MMA guys could lose to top boxers if they box with them.

In the early days when Muay Thai first met boxing the KO ratio was almost even between the two styles. The Muay Thai fighters did not know how to protect their chin and left it wide open for the boxer to hit. leg kicks left this open but often neutralized it to. Many traditional Thai fighters have this problem still.

I do not know which glove does more damage. boxers in general hit harder so that means even with bigger gloves they may still do more damage.

how ever mma fighters that train with boxing gloves and mma gloves say the mma gloves hurt more. I only train with mma gloves so I do not know. I am going to go with B.J. Penn and Florian on this one and say the mma gloves hurt worst
