  1. I think it'll literally be impossible for a boxer to survive in the MMA because boxers are just 1 dimentional. MMA fighters may survive in boxing because they do have to cross train. A boxer may be able to KO an MMA fighter but what happens if it gets taken to the ground? What happens if a boxer ends up in the clinch and might take a knee to the face? What happens if he fights a kickboxer who has legs that reach out further than a boxer's fists? A real boxer only uses the legs to maneuver not as weapons. Just remember Art Jimmerson.

  2. Boxing is better because it's a coherent set of rules.  MMA tries to melt all styles of fighting into one smorgasbord.  But you invariably end up with 2 grown men fumbling around each other like a drunken prom night in San Francisco.  It doesn't work for me as a sport, because it's not a sport.

  3. I prefer Boxing 1000x more than MMA.  I have nothing against MMA but I do get annoyed with all of their front-running fans saying that it will be the death of boxing.  Not gonna happen.

MMA fights can be exciting but the truth is that once a fight goes to the grappling part, I get EXTREMELY bored out of my mind.  And if a fighter is knocked down or stunned, the fight is usually over.  I like where in boxing, the fighter has the chance to get up and fight on.  Look at some great fights like Marciano-Walcott, Gatti-Ward (all 3), Corrales-Castillo, where one of the fighters was down and stunned and had to climb off the canvas, survive a barrage, and come back to keep fighting.

Just a few weeks ago, there was a big MMA pay-per-view card with Anderson Silva.  The main event went all of 30 seconds.  The next week, there was a boxing PPV with Margarito and Cotto fighting a war for 11 rounds.  Which do you think was more exciting and a better value for the PPV dollars????  The boxing match HANDS DOWN!!!

I also crack up at the guy who rips the "padded" gloves that boxers wear.  Try getting hit with one of those padded gloves and then tell me about it!!!!

  4. To those who think boxing is boring (THE SOCCER SPEED DEMO, Timothy N) why isn't the MMA in the Olympics? boxing is. The Olympic wrestling is not even being televised.

When a fighter kicks he is then going to be crushed! Why? he is going to be off balance, the boxer will then step to the side and destroy his body.

If its on the ground the boxer then just has to clinch. If a boxer can clinch with gloves, whats going to stop him from clinching with out them. The ref will separate them and then both fighters will be on their FEET!

  5. I hate MMA but they do know what they are talking about and there is room for both sports. I am not going to bash MMA because they have given me some great advice on this forum. I think I am qualified to speak on this subject because before there was a MMA there was something called Tough Man hear me out this was back in 1982 there were no rules  there was no weight class and if you won the contest you would fight 5 times in one night so you fought guys that were pure mean not skilled and you fought guys like me who was a very skilled boxer I weighed 175lbs and I fought guys who weighed over 300lbs and I beat them all wrestlers black belts boxers street fighters and many different combinations so if you are a great athlete and are skilled in the art of boxing you can beat any one . 35 years in the game and a professional boxing coach keep punching.

  6. Hmmmm I see where youre coming from but boxing gets boring easily if you ask me. All it really is is two guys trading punches with big, clumsy gloves (I like the small, open finger MMA gloves much more) until someone either gets KOd or it goes to decision. MMA has much more variety to it and since people actually have different styles, it makes the fights more interesting. You have submission, ground and pound, standup, and so on. For example, if you have someone like Chuck Liddell, an awesome striker, facing someone like Forrest Griffin, who is more well versed in submission, but can throw punches if he needs to, you have an interesting fight because it is interesting to see which guys style will prevail and such. The only downer is that if two ground and pound guys are going at it, ti can be very boring because all they do is just try to pass guard on the mat the whole fight. But even that is still interesting because its like a chessmatch to see who makes the right move. Boxing is just punches, punches, and more punches. MMA is punches, submissions, kicks, etc. MMA also has a tendency to be more fast paced that Boxing as well.
