Hi,

At what age did Prince Naseem Hamed win a world crown. Is he currently the youngest british to have a world crown if so, at what age..and month or days didhe get the world crown e.g. 22 yrs 290 days?

And at what age did he get a Gold medal in boxing? and that too included days and months.

Did he go through olympics to get a medal and then turn proffesional and what age did he turn proffesional?

What is a World crown and how are boxers supposed to get it, i.e. do you have to be proffesional to get it?

who has the current world crown? i mean whats it all about?

thnx

  1. Naseem Hamed won his first world title at the age of 21 years, 7 months, and 18 days.

Currently, Hamed is the youngest British fighter to ever win a world title, however Amir Khan has stated that he wants to break Hamed's record.

Hamed never got a gold medal.

He never went to the olympics, but he was a very good amateur fighter- he had an amateur record of 62 wins, 5 losses, with 17 knockouts.  He turned pro at the age of 18 years, 2 months, and 2 days.

A world crown is the same thing as saying a world championship.  Boxers win world titles by beating the current titleholders or if the title is vacant, the top 2 contenders fight each other and the winner gets the title.  Yes, you must be a professional fighter to win a world title (you must have a pro license).  There are four different world titles currently- WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO.  However, most people recognize the fighter with the Ring Magazine belt as the true champion in each weight division, and everyone else is just considered a titleholder.

If you want to see all of the current world champions and titleholders, go to Wikipedia and type in "list of current world boxing champions" and you will be able to see all of them.  I would copy and paste it for you, but Yahoo Answers isn't letting me do it right now (must be a glitch).

Maurice- Robert Guerrero currently has the IBF title, not Jason Litzaou.  Litzaou just challenged him for the title, but he was TKO'd.
