Question:

Boxwood problem, please help?

My fiance and I just got our first home. There are two boxwood plants in the front yard that are trimmed as topiary. They are tall plants (trimmed into three ball sections, almost like a snowman is shaped).

One is in great shape and the other is a mess. It has some green to it and it definitely has new growth. But I would say that about 30% of it is dead branches with no foliage. It is completely bald in these areas. What is wrong with it? Can it be saved? It is definitely still growing some foliage. Tell me what to do.

  1. I think it is diseased. No. It will spread to the other one. You could dig it out and discard it to keep the other one from getting infected. It would be cheaper to get another one than to treat it with fungicides, though if you can find those in the  lawn and garden section at your local major retail store (you know the one, begins with a W, but won't post spam), a real do it yourselfer, you have nothing to lose to treat the disease. Also insect infestations.
