Boy involved in Lamar Odom’s Car Crash dies – NBA Update
Late Thursday, a 15 year old boy named Awsaf Alvi Islam sustained severe injuries as a direct consequence of an accident between Lamar Odom’s car and a speeding motorcycle. The boy was taken to the nearby Elmhurst Hospital Centre
in Queens, but was unable to withstand the fatal head injuries, and passed away the next day after the surgery was unsuccessful.
The incident happened after the crash sent the motorcycle spinning out of control and it collided with the boy, who was passing by. The motorcycle hit him from the rear and caused him to hit head-first on the pavement.
Odom was in Queens, New York, at the time of this incident to attend the funeral of a family member. However, he was not driving the car. He had acquired a car rental service and was being driven around the city by a chauffeur
when this event took place.
The funeral of the boy took place on Monday at the ‘Jam-e-Masjid’ Mosque, after which Awsaf’s friends and neighbours buried the boy in Washington Memorial Park on Long Island.
The boy belonged to a family of immigrants from Bangladesh, who are reported to be living a hand-to-mouth life. On Monday, Odom expressed his sorrow and condolences to the aggrieved family. "My thoughts and prayers are with the
young boy’s family", he tweeted.
It is reported that Odom was seen crying at the crash site after being overwhelmed by the incident. The Motorcycle driver, 32 year old Christian Mora, was declared stable after receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Mora was trying to turn left from the left side of the car and hit the front bumper of the car, which made him lose control of his bike.
Odom’s wife and reality TV star, Khloe Kardashian, was not present in the car at the time of the accident. However, she also took to her twitter account and extended her condolences to the family. ”My heart/soul goes out 2every1
in pain from any suffering”, tweeted Kardashian.
Paul Browne, the New York City Police Spokesperson, said that as of now no arrests were made in lieu of the incident, however, the issue was under investigation. Odom’s Chauffeur, who was an employee of a New York Car Rental Service,
was also unhurt in the accident.
The Bangladeshi community has been very upset over the death of Awsaf Alvi, but so far have restrained to lay the blame on any one in particular. The consular-general of Bangladesh also attended the funeral of the boy.
