Im completely stuck 4 a boys name and havent been able 2 decide one and theres only a few weeks left. However, i was thinking last nite whilst trying 2 sleep and the perfect name came into my head.

Harley/harlee (not sure which spelling) middle name Jay.

I really like this name and was so excited i'd picked it. I told my partner who said he liked it also, however the problem is that he has a sister who is 18, (not pregnant) who told him that when she has a baby she is having harley as the name. Im so annoyed because she isnt even pregnant! yet i feel like i cant have this name as she has already 'taxed' it! And i know i would be made to feel so guilty about it What should i do? as anyone got any alternative names?

  1. She's not pregnant... You are... You can name your baby whatever you want and then when his sister's a little older and pregnant she can name her baby whatever she wants. If both of your kids are named "Harley/Harlee" then oh well - her kid will probably go by a nickname at family events so as not to confuse the two kids.

  2. If she's not pregnant, she doesn't get dibs. I would tweak it a bit, though. Harley is a boy's name to me, but it isn't unheard of on girls. I would use a more clearly masculine middle name with it. I would only spell it Harley, not Harlee or Harleigh or what have you. You could use Charles, nicknamed Charlie. It sounds almost identical, and it won't offend your sister in law, no matter how petty she's being.

    Harley James

    Harley John

    Charles Jay (Charlie)

    Charles Jonathan

  3. You have to look out for yourself not others. If you found a name you love then go for it. Just tell her you like the name and since she is not prego then she can't claim the name. I also like Jacob Jay. I think it is cool.

  4. Talk to your sister and tell her that it would be the perfect name for your baby, then try and come up with some names for her baby when she becomes pregnant. Also most names are thought up in the delivery room, My parents were going to name me Amanda until they say my face, they named me Brittney, they said I just looked like a Brittney.

Talk to your sister anyway and you never know the name might change when you see the baby's face :3 Good luck.

  5. she's not having a baby, YOU are, and you love that name so i would go with it, she can still call her baby that in the future when she has it. i hate when people do that.

  6. Sorry to burst your bubble but Harley is a motorcycle and also sounds like Harlot.  But, you are the one pregnant so it's your name!

  7. they could have the same name. just tell the other baby, that he was named after his uncle. that could work. but, i cant think of any other names... except Joshua Preston (last name here) but that's going to be my baby's name. lol, jk

  8. plz don't name it harley it reminds me of a big fat guy thats going to beet up the little kids after school and take there lunch money.  Name him

    Riley Jay

    Nathaniel Jay (nate)

    Parker Jay

    Carter Jay

    Carson Jay

    Oliver Jay

    Braxton Jay

I like those names so much better.   Think about it there was never an athletic harely or an honor roll student named harley let ur sister and law have the name good luck and congrats on ur pregnancy! =D

  9. You should use it. You came up with it not knowing that she liked the name. She'll get over it. She might not ever have a son and then you'll regret not using it.

  10. just use the name and dont care what she says. when she has a baby in a year ir so THEN she can argue with you bout it. also, she'll come up with a different name by then.

  11. I know what you mean she will say u 'copied' her lol! but the decision is yours, if you want harley, then use it. think of how many other mums chose that name, its just anme you both like so its tough for her! look on some baby name websites. i like unusual names, if my baby is a boy then we will use one of these which may not be your type

    River

    Jaxon

    Cody

    Presley

    Preston

    Roman

  12. oh my god!!! name your child what you want! shes only 18 and probably jjust dancies the name now, by the time she has a baby she'll have changed her mind, dont take a bit of notice of her, if you like the name than go ahead, sfter all shes not even pregnant yet!!! and if you call the baby harley she'd just look like an idiot naming her child the same thing! Go for it, it's a lovely name!

  13. I love Harley Jay. Too bad for his sister, she isn't pregnant.Unless she told you herself, go with the name.

A similar name is Hanley which I think is cute too.

If your heart is set on Harley go  for it.

  14. You are the one that is having the baby! She can pick out her own name for when she gets pregnant. And she is only eighteen, she doesn't need to worry about that kind of stuff yet.

I say name your baby that. After all, it is your desicion. And I think that the name is very cute.

    Hope I helped! :-)

  15. Talk to her about it tell her that you really like that name and that you would love it if she would let you have it , so to speak !

I like that name specially with the middle name being Jay

Hope it all works out ans she agrees with you and if she doesn't then steal it anyway

What can she do about it ?

And also i love the name Drake Francis

    and

    Christopher-Lee

    x

  16. We had the name Logan picked out and my little sister decided that is the name her and her fiance like since it is his middle name.  My sister and I are SUPER close and she is only 18.  I would never want to hurt her so I changed my boy name to either Liam or Elijah.

I personally do not like Harley.   I know a lit of girls named that around where I live and it seems a little "rough".

I would go to nymbler.com and put in named you kind of like and it will suggest others that maybe you like.  I also like the book, Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison and Montana.  It groups the names so you can look up the name Harley and look at others in the same category.

    Good luck :)

Also, I used to want to name my next daughter Makenna and I thought it was for sure.  Then my brother had a daughter and named her Makenna and  I was upset for a minute but now I don't really like the name so I'm glad he used it since I grew out of it.

  17. who cares, she isnt pregnant and will probably change her mind when she does have a child. use the name you want to use

  18. It is your baby, name it whatever you want.  She might change her mind by time she gets pregnant anyway.  What if her partner hates the name?  Who says there can't be more than one "harley" in the family any way.

  19. Harlyn, Harlen, Harlan, Harlym, Harlem, Harlam

  20. Oh what a shame

Harley Jay is a brilliant name

Could you not talk to her and explain all this to her and see what she says ?

Maybe she would be proud to have a nephew with this name

    If not

Hayden Jay is another great name

    or

    Jayden Harley

    Good Luck

    xx

  21. Name him Honda,Suzuki,Yamaha....ANYTHING but Harley

  22. You could use Harlen Jay and call him Harley...or there is Arlo, Harden, Holden, Jory, Tynan...

TBH by the time your partners sister has a child she may no longer like the name, or her partner may hate.  And even if she does use it, does it really matter?

ETA thought of a couple you might like Raleigh or Roane

  23. My mom loved the name Gracie, and when my cousin got pregnant she named her baby Gracie after my mom said she loved that name. And my mom was happy for her. It's not her name. She isn't even pregnant. She may never get pregnant, though I hope for her sake she does. And also, she's 18. She's young, and will change her favorite names many times.

    Use the name ;-)

  24. Forget the alternative names.  You and your partner really like the name Harley then go with it.

There are no reservations on names.  You had a baby first.  Tell the sister she'll have to come up with something more original or just live with your choice and get a life.

Is your sister going to name her baby  Harley  regardless of the gender?

She doesn't even know when she's going to have a baby so it could be years before this becomes an issue.  By then she may have changed her mind 15 times.

But if this is a real issue with you try "Davidson".  I like the sound of Davidson Jay.

Also the name Harley reminds me of the Harley Davidson motorcycle.  So, using Davidson sounds cool.  Just remember, it is your little boy who has to live with the name.  Good luck.

  25. You shouldn't give up hope on using that name just because your husbands sister wants to name her non-existent kid harley. To be honest, if you're having the baby first, you should name it what you want because really, theres many people in the world with the same name, dont feel bad about it !

It sounds like a very cute name that your baby could use throughout his life because it would sound good on a person at any age.

Hope that helped you make a decision !

  26. name your baby what you want she is not pregnant or having a baby yo are so if you want to name it that then i would name it. like the other person said when she has a baby then she can name it that or something else. hope i helped!

  27. Ugh, what a sticky situation. I can understand your confusion and I'm sure that I'd feel guilty as well.

Like someone else said, YOU are the one who is having the baby, so you get first dibs. Haha! If you love the name so much, you can talk to her about it. Tell her you've been thinking about names and you love the name she came up with: Harley. Ask her what she thinks about you naming your baby Harley...maybe she'd be completely fine with it, you never know! If she isn't, explain that it's the name you chose and you're sticking with it. She has time to find another name...she's not pregnant and of course, hasn't announced the name of her child. There's millions of names out there, and she has to have other favorites.

  28. This is easy.  Name your child Harley which ever spelling you choose and when his sister has a baby his middle name can be the other spelling in honor of his Uncle.

    dont sweat it

When my daughter was pregnant, well she is my step daughter and I raised her most of her life.  I told everyone including the real mother, that I wanted to be called NANNA guess what she moved to where her real mother lives just before giving birth and she is now Nana and I get stuck with GRANNY.  Im not quit 40 I aint no GRANNY.  anyway what ever my grandaughter decides to call me will be fine but it was irritating. Talk to you daughter and see how she feels about sharing the name, because who knows if her future child's father will like it either. I would do it anyway

  29. Im not being mean but ignore her( your partner's sis )who's having the baby ? you are.

    You can't " tax " a name

And if you love the name which i do also then go for it if she is 18 who know's when she will have a baby and it sounds like she is just trying to cause problems.

Congrats on your baby dont let her stand in your way she has no right to make you feel guilty when it comes to naming your baby !

If you like the name Jay also have you thought of it for a first name ?

  30. How about Nick. I like Harley/Harlee.

  31. i would go ahead and name your baby Harley, if thats what the you and the father both like. You are having a baby now, she is not. But, for a little boy i would go with the spelling "harley' insteas of "harlee", as that looks feminine. but that is just my opinion.

there is also Harlan, which is kind of like Harley, but i dont like that name very much.

    good luck to you!!!!
