Boyd Rankin, the pacer of Team Ireland, has expressed his desire to play for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 cricket team and reiterated that he is even ready to leave the Irish side if the English give him a chance to play ODI cricket.
The bowler said that he has been waiting for a call from England since the start of his International cricket career. He thinks that he has potential to play on a larger platform and rub shoulders with ace cricketing figures of team England.
Talking to the media today, Rankin said, “I want to play at the highest level and be the best I can be. I still feel I’m getting better and better and if the chance came I would probably take it.”
The pacer is eager to play Test cricket for any team at any time. His team is still an associate member of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) and does not have Test cricket status.
He told, “The ultimate goal is to play Test cricket and I don’t know if the one-day team is the route to Test team. It won’t happen for a while anyway but it’s just a matter of trying to get my foot into the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 (door) and do well with them and get on
the winter programme.”
Test cricket, being the oldest and finest form of the game, is always a dream of every cricketer and playing for an ace team like England is a matter of additional prestige.
Rankin revealed his desire after signing with the England Lions this week.
Making his International debut in 2007, Rankin has played 32 ODIs and 2 T20Is so far, taking 39 and 7 wickets respectively. The right-arm pacer’s best figures in ODIs have been 3/32 so far.
Apart from International cricket, the 27-year-old has 44 First-Class, 66 List A and 9 T20 matches to his name.
He has also played for two County sides, including Derbyshire and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862. Like the current tall pacers of Team England, he also uses his 6 feet and 7 inches height to bowl with pace and extract bounce.
