If I order soup she makes a comment about how much food is in my dish. I can't win. I've ordered small sandwiches, small salads. Everything I eat in her eyes is too big a portion. I don't know what to say to her without being rude.

  1. she'll stop that when she sees what her son puts in your mouth

  2. dont worry just do what you want to do

  3. Can't you just be nice about it and say: they serve large portions in this restaurant. She probably does not mean anything bad about it, it is just a remark.

  4. time to ignore her.  she sounds tough to deal with.  you really shouldn't say much to her.  she is just...  a *****.. lol.  don't care for w.e she has to say.

  5. i would just ignore it or be like i'm hungry and i eat what i want..

  6. The only thing you can do is say," well, I'm hungry."  Unless you're really obese, I don't see that she has any right to say anything.  Even it that WAS the case, it's still rude for her to comment on the portions of your food.

Or, turn the tables and ask her why she never eats anything.

Or, better still, stay away from meals with her whenever possible.  You don't have to subject yourself to her inconsiderate comments -- she's just plain rude.

  7. At that point she is out of line and is beyond rude for commenting on your plate like that. Tell her to mind her own business or bettter yet, don't eat with her.Just because she seems borderline anorexic doesn't mean you have to be.

  8. If you really wish to haul her up short on her comments, then give a very surprised look, and say, "Oh MY!  When did YOU become the FOOD POLICE?"  Then plan on losing your boyfriend.

Or how about, "I'm sorry that bothers you.  Would you like to discuss the portions with the chef in the kitchen?  We'll wait for you."

How about... "Oh dear!  You're absolutely right!  I should be ASHAMED of myself, considering all the starving children in China and Africa!"

Here's a straight, head-on approach... "Would you prefer that I starve?"

Or... "Just because YOU have a food problem doesn't mean you have to visit it on others."

Now... weigh those options with this one...

Just put a smile on your face, keep eating, and continue with any conversation as if the comment was never spoken.  Your last sentence... I don't know what to say to her without being rude.... is absolutely correct.  Ergo, to be polite, say nothing.

    Have a polite day.

  9. It's totally cool, u can give her some remark back, without being rude. Just think of one, sometimes it just comes to you.

  10. Why do you bother to eat with her around. Waste of time ... she is just trying to belittle you in front of her son. Does he ever tell her politely to shut up? If he doesn't ... get rid of him. If you don't and you marry him ... it will not stop at the food on your plate. It will continue with cooking, cleaning, laundry, kids .... it will NEVER end!
