  1. The best way to learn about martial arts is to do it. Try brazilian jiu jitsu for a little while and maybe some kickboxing. If your not into actually training in it just watch all the MMA you can. Also you can go on youtube and watch videos to get familiar. Again the best way is to do it. Sign up for brazilian jiu jitsu or kickboxing together.

  2. Fist off I applaud you desired to share his interests - he's got a good woman.

Now, to be honest you might want to find some movies about Bruce Lee. There's an interesting one called "Curse of the Dragon" it's not an action movie, but a documentary on "Bruce Lee" it talks about him as well as his Martial Arts.

Another thing you might do is look into Bruce's Book "Tao of Jeet Kune Do" it's not just a book about fighting it's about Bruce's thoughts on Martial arts as a whole.

I suggested this because one thing over looked about Bruce Lee was that is attitude and philosophy on marital arts is what's truly shaped how we do things today. If it wasn't for Bruce Lee I doubt many Americans would even be Martial Artists at all. To study Bruce Lee would be to study the ART of the Fight and not the FIGHT itself.

A good movie YOU might want to look into is "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" - it's a Hollywood Characterization about Bruce Lee (so it's VERY loosely based on his actually life) but it's still a good movie that deals more with who Bruce was and the REAL problems he would have faced and it still goes into his concepts of Martial Arts and how he devloped them (on example is in that movie it shows him fighting for the right to teach Kung Fu - something he truly had to do, but I doubt it may not have actually gone the way they depicted in the movie - that's just for Hollywod Drama).

Because Bruce didn't believe in ONE style you will get to see what is at the core of all Martial Arts and how they are alike. AFTER that you can then start to appreciate the Art of the thing before you go learning the "rules" that make each one "different". After that watch a few Bruce Lee, Jet Li and Jackie Chan files (find their top 10's on the Internet and enjoy)

  3. Bruce Lee

Watch "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" & "Curse of The Dragon"

  4. If you try by just watching it.  If you like it you will soon pick up on it, if not you're kinda fighting a lost cause...there are a lot of fighters and it will be hard to know the who's who if you don't like it.  You could learn them, but it wouldn't be any good if you really don't like what you're talking about you will be lost in a good conversation.  Sherdog.com, in my opinion, is the best place to go for results and fighters.

  5. You could read articles on sherdog.com or mmajunkie.com

you'll probably surprise him and know more than he does.

  6. are you just trying to intelligently discuss this with him? do you enjoy watching it and can you tolerate it?

If you can appreciate the sport then thats a good thing...if your just doing it cause he likes it it may be a hard sport to pick up on and appreciate...

I would say start by watching...thats the only way...UFC runs re-runs of good fights before the Ultimate Fighter Reality show wednesday nights at 10...

also if your not into the MMA aspect and the actual fighting but more the movie side of it...Bruce lee as you said....try some of Bruce lees documentaries...Jet li and tony jaa are my favorite martial artists now that make movies...both very exciting martial artists who take the stunts and fighting choreography to the next level...

  7. go to ultimate fighting championship home page, theres a section that explains the rules and it tells who's fighting in upcoming fights. theres a hall of fame section, i recommend that you youtube any/all the fighters in that section.

  8. by watching i would guess. you could listen to which fighters have which martial art mastered and then look up what that particular martial art is about. other than that its just 2 meat heads throwing their meat around.

  9. Tell him you would love to have a 3 some with Gina Carano

  10. Go to a few mma classes and learn how to do a triangle.  Then when you guys are getting jiggy with it, take his full mount and throw on a triangle from the top.

If any girl ever did that to me it would be awesome!!!

heres a video of it.  As you can see, his face is in a good position!

    Thats just my advice tho!

  11. Have some Bruce Lee movie nights, and start going to competitons in your area or close by.

If they happen to be in a near by city make a trip out of it, where the two of you go alone, so you have something to talk about with out his friends around.

    Goodluck!

  12. Sit down and watch some fights.

Go to a MMA forum and read some threads Sherdog.com has a great FAQ thread that I've left in the sources just ignore all the site specific stuff and it's a great educator on the history of MMA
