Boys at Tosconova and Tapizar are set to make a comeback to the races at Belmont Park
The 3-year-old colts, Boys at Tosconova and Tapizar, return to the races after a lengthy absence to participate in a second level allowance optional claimer event at Belmont Park worth $54,000 on 8 October, 2011.
The Richard Dutrow Jr. trained Boys at Tosconova raced last in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on 6 November, 2010, at Churchill Downs where he was the runner-up behind Uncle Mo.
The son of Officer, out of Little Bonnet by Coronado’s Quest, Boys at Tosoconova broke his maiden back on 2 July, 2010, at Belmont Park over its dirt course, over a distance of 5 furlongs under jockey Ramon Dominguez and the pair covered the distance in 56.26 seconds.
He was sent to Saratoga for his second start, where he wreaked havoc and downed his fellow juvenile runners and won the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes on 6 September, 2010, covering the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 23.27 seconds.
Boys at Tosconova downed the like of Stay Thirsty and Wine Police in the Hopeful Stakes, and after that performance he was pointed to run in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
On the other hand, the son of Tapit, out of Winning Call by Deputy Minister, Tapizar did make two starts this season, winning the Grade 3 Sham at Santa Anita Park on 15 January, 2011.
The race was run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on dirt and Tapizar downed Clubhouse Ride and Anthony’s Cross under jockey Garrett Gomez with the winning time of 1 minute and 40.38 seconds.
Steven Asmussen trained 3-year-old colt stayed at Santa Anita Park to participate in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at about 1 1/8 miles, but the colt turned in a non threatening 5th place finish on 12 February, 2011.
The comebacking trip would have to go through the likes of veteran sprinters Mannington, Starforaday and Three Day Rush.
Another colt will make a comeback, Uptowncharlybrown, who went on to win his first two career starts, including the Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay going seven furlongs and winning it by a decisive six lengths.
