Boys at Tosconova ready for 2012, and he will kick off his campaign to handicap heights in the Harlan’s Holiday Stakes
The promising juvenile of 2010, Boys at Tosconova, returned to races this year after turning in a solid performance in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs at about 1 1/16 miles to winner Uncle Mo.
The 3-year-old colt has been lightly raced this year and with a couple of allowance claimers, he hasn’t been tested at all after coming back from his injury which sidelined him briefly.
The Jay Em Ess Stable owned Boys at Tosconova started his 2011 campaign late, when he finished third in an allowance claimer at Belmont Park on 8 October, 2011, at about seven furlongs to winner Tapizar, who covered the seven furlong long sprint in 1 minute
and 21.20 seconds while Uptowncharlybrown finished second.
Recently, Boys at Tosconova appeared in another allowance claimer at about six and a half furlongs at Aqueduct race course on 11 November, 2011, under Ramon Dominguez where he downed his rivals to win the race in 1 minute and 17.46 seconds, as Hillswick
and Starforaday finished second and third, respectively.
Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. would now have to look forward regards to Boys at Tosconova’s 4-year-old career in the year 2012. The handicap division looks to be wide open for next year and Dutrow would want to be a major player then.
With Boys at Tosconova reaching 4, Richard Dutrow can start training him at Gulfstream Park for things to come. He has lined a couple of older horses apart from Boys at Tosconova, who can do his bidding in the handicap division next year. The duo consists
of Redeemed and Trickmeister.
Right now the trio is headed toward the $60,000 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes on Dec. 17. In preparation for the race, Boys at Tosconova, fired a five furlong bullet in 1 minute flat at Gulfstream Park on 1 December, followed by an easy six furlong work in 1 minute
and 15.16 seconds on 7 December, 2011, at Gulfstream Park.
“He had an issue with his right ankle after the Breeders’ Cup, and we stopped on it before it became a more serious issue and in time to get him back the right way,” Dutrow said. “It looks like he needed the first start back, and I was very happy with his
last race. We’ll see what happens next, I don’t want to go for the gut right away, but he could wind up in the Hal’s Hope here next month.”
