Boys at Tosconova showed at Gulfstream Park he is too good for a solid allowance field
The 3-year-old Jay Em Ess Stables owned colt, Boys at Tosconova, has made a remarkable comeback by winning 2 consecutive races in three starts since his second place finish to Uncle Mo in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on 6 November,
2010, at about 1 1/16 miles.
On 23 December, 2011, Boys at Tosconova marked his second consecutive in an optional/allowance feature at Gulfstream Park, going over a distance of 1 mile on dirt.
Ridden by jockey Ramon Dominguez, Boys at Tosconova was very impressive as how he handled the pace and still had enough left in him to go all the way as he went on to down the opening quarter mile in 23.87 seconds. His 2012 campaign is much awaited by fans,
who are expecting big things from Boys at Tosconova in 2012.
Boys at Tosconova responded as he swung by the bend and took the lead in the stretch. Firing in all cylinders, Boys at Tosconova held off Where’s Sterling, who threatened the winner’s lead, but weakened to finish a length off Boys at Tosconova, who covered
the 1 mile distance over dirt in 1 minute and 35.62 seconds.
“We’re happy with him,” said trainer Rick Dutrow. “I’m not sure that he’s shown that he’s the horse he was last year, but the way the race set up today and breaking from the one post, we really didn’t have much choice but to go to the front and run those
fast fractions (half-mile in 45 4/5). If he’d drawn outside I would preferred to see him sit back off the pace, maybe third.
The 3-year-old Kentucky bred son of Officer, out of mare Little Bonnet by Coronado’s Quest, Boys at Tosconova is not listed to race in the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope Stakes, which is run over a distance of 1 mile on dirt and is exclusive for 4-year-olds and above
at Gulfstream Park on 14 January 2011, but Dutrow is thinking otherwise.
I don’t want to bring him back in three weeks in the Hal’s Hope (gr. III). I want to give him at least five, six, seven weeks, and then pick out the right spot.”
