Boys at Tosconova training well under Dutrow ahead of the Harlan’s Holiday
Lightly race 3-year-old colt, Boys at Tosconova, has entered the Harlan’s Holiday, a race which will be run at Gulfstream Park on 17 December, 2011, at about 1 1/16 miles on the dirt track exclusively for 3-year-olds and above.
The race has reeled in 9 colts and geldings, including Boys at Tosconova and stable mate Trickmeister. Trained by Richard Dutrow for Jay Em Ess Stable, Boys at Tosconova, continues to train well after coming to Florida from New York.
The Kentucky bred son of Officer, out of mare Little Bonnet by Coronado’s Quest, Boys at Tosconova arrived at Florida with trainer Richard Dutrow last month as he turned in his first Florida workout session almost two weeks back when he fired a five furlong
bullet in 1 minute on 1 December, 2011.
Over a very fast track at Gulfstream Park, Boys at Tosconova, turned in his second workout session where he worked six furlongs in 1 minute and 14.60 seconds and then galloped out seven eighths in 1 minute and 29.20 seconds on 14 December, 2011.
Boys at Tosconova raced only twice this year, and he is exiting a victory in an allowance claimer which was run over a distance of six and a half furlongs at Aqueduct race track.
Under jockey Ramon Dominguez, Boys at Tosconova won a gate to wire front running style race to defeat Hillswick and Starforaday, who finished second and third, respectively, on the day while Boys at Tosconova covered the distance in 1 minute and 17.46 seconds
on 11 November, 2011.
It was the first time Boys at Tosconova won since going all the way and winning the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes as a 2-year-old back in 2010.
His first race of the 2011 season was also an allowance claimer, a sprint which was stretched out to seven furlongs at Belmont Park on 8 October, 2011. Ridden by John Velazquez, Boys at Tosconova finished third to winner Tapizar, who covered the distance
in 1 minute and 21.20 seconds, while Uptowncharlybrown finished second.
The Harlan’s Holiday has also reeled in Duke of Mischief in the 1 1/16 mile test, who will make his first start since the dismal performance in the Grade 1 Whitney where he finished 10th.
