Boys at Tosconova turned in his first official work out since the last year Breeders’ Cup for trainer Richard Dutrow
The 3-year-old Richard Dutrow Jr. trained 2010 racing sensation Boys at Tosconova and also a Grade 1 winner, got back out at Aqueduct on 11 August for his official breeze for the first time after his second place finish in Breeders’ Cup.
Owned by Jay Em Ess Stable, Boys at Tosconova is the son of Officer out of Little Bonnet by Coronado’s Quest had to contend with a three furlong breeze which he easily made it in: 39 1/5 seconds on the morning of 11 August for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.
The colt wasn’t expected to return to the work tab this early, as he was scheduled for a little more galloping for a couple more weeks, but trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. thought differently and decided to get the colt going again.
According to trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. bringing the colt in to the work tab ahead of the schedule was becoming necessary, as the colt have never been sidelined for this long at the barn, he was getting agitated and biting off people, especially after removing
the chip off of his shoulder.
Dutrow was happy with the 3-year-old colt’s workout and said he likes what he saw.
Boys at Tosconova broke his maiden in his second attempt at Belmont Park over at distance of 5 furlongs, and winning by a massive margin of 12 lengths, and showed his potential to his trainers.
Not long after the maiden domination, on 6 September, 2010, Dutrow decided to enter the colt in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes. Run over at a distance of 7 furlongs, Boys at Tosconova odd on favourite spurted past his opponents to win the Saratoga dash, and
covered the distance in 1 minute and 23.27 seconds.
Eventually going for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, where he was a distant second to the eventual 3-year-old champion Uncle Mo. The race was also up in distance for Boys at Tosconova, run at 1 1/16 miles at Churchill Downs under jockey R Dominguez on
6 November, 2010.
There are no specific goals or targets for the 3-year-old said trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. but if all goes well the colt will make his comeback in six to eight weeks.
