  1. Br2 is a liquid with a density of 3.03 g/mL, or 3.03 g/cm^3.  hence the pressure exerted by a column containing Br2 at a height of 1000 mm, or 100 cm, is:

    (3.03 g/cm^3)* (100 cm) = 303 g/cm^2.

The mercury at the same pressure would have a height of:

    (303 g/cm^2)/(13.6 g/cm^3) = 22.3 cm = 223 mm

Since one atm is 760 mm Hg, 223 mm Hg is:

    (223/760) atm = 0.293 atm
