Question:

Braces. Keep or Lose?

I've been to the orthodontist since 6th grade and I'm now verging on my Junior year in highschool. I've been okay with the treatments my orthodontist has been doing but recently he is making me wear rubber bands across the right side and front of my mouth. That was the breaking point for me. I've had these things for one night and already I'm punching walls over them. I know people will tell me I should keep them and that I will regret it in the long run but understand that I have a very low tolerance level with these things. Not to mention I look ridiculous. Any way I can keep my teeth the way they are if i remove them now through retainers?

  1. 6th grade to your junior year? That's a long time, but most of the time orthodontist knows best. I have figured out about asking your dentist. Next time you go in for a check up with your dentist ask him or her.

  2. I had those elastics too, and here is the weird thing. I hated them but I wore them every day for the first month. I went to the ortho and he was like 'looks like you havent been wearing elastics! You need to wear them more!" i had litereally worn them 24/7... So the next month i said s***w it and didnt wear them.. I went to the ortho and he said "good job, i see you've been wearing your elastics"....

So, assuming they were the same ones (top to bottom)? wear them just at night but dont worry about it during the day.

  3. try invisaline

  4. If your bite isn't correct (which it isn't if you still have braces) your teeth will end up moving even with a retainer over time. Just wear them at night. Honestly, when I had them I always forgot to wear them and my orthodontist couldn't even tell. He kept telling me I was doing a great job.
