  1. it depends, i think most people have to, but you may not have to wear the retainers in the day. after i got my braces off i just had to wear them at night time when i went to bed.

depends really on what your orthodontist thinks.

they kinda give you a little bit of a lisp but you get used to it

  2. Yes, you need to get a retainer to keep your teeth straight. If you are young you don't want to have to get braces 20 years from now because you teeth moved again. I suggest you wear it as instructed by you orthodontist. And even if you ortho doesn't suggest it, new thinking by professionals is to wear it forever (only at night after awhile) to keep your straight smile as you get older. Cuz your teeth will move! Trust me, I know from experience. I got an Evertain retainer because it comes with a 3 year protection program for lose or breakage. You can request it from your doc. Putting link to why you should wear a retainer below (american ortho site)

Most of all ---- Don't stress about it!

  3. It depends on your mouth and your teeth...sometimes a retainer is all that is necessary...other times, it's gonna be braces...in that case?  Invisalign are the best!

  4. yes every orthodontic treatment has retainer after the braces taken off. the function of the retainer is to maintain the alignment of your teeth. there are 2 types of retainer,, fixed and removable retainer.. it depends on your cases for choosing it

for the first 6 months, it (the removable retainer) has to be worn 24 hours a day (except during meal time)

and after that only during sleeping time,,

if it's fixed (only for mandible teeth), you don't have to worry about the usage, cause its fixed

when i first wore my retainer, yes i have difficulty pronounciacing words with s..

my suggestion is you have to take your dentist's advice seriously, its for your own goodness

    hope that helps :)

  5. everyone has to get a retainer or your teeth shift back to the way they were

  6. yes everyone gets a retainer. In the case of being permanent or not is up your doctor but most of the time you will get a removable retainer

  7. everyone i know including myself got retainers after braces.

and yes they do make you talk weird, especially at first but you get used to it after some time.

    and retainers aren't permant.

they tell you to wear them for a certain time period

and then they'll tell you when you don't have to wear them anymore.

    its no big deal, really.

  8. You can have a few types of retainer.

I got my braces off last week and I have a fixed retainer. It's basically just a small wire bonded to the BACK of the upper and lower front teeth and it's not noticeable at all.

I'm also getting a clear retainer for my top teeth which is just a see-through plastic cover for my teeth that I wear 24/7 for the first few weeks then only at night after that.

My friend had a retainer that was a mouthpiece that's shaped like the roof of your mouth with a bar attached that clips over your top teeth but it's only a thin bar and it's not very noticeable either.

Depends on the person and your ortho. Imo bonded retainers are best because you can't take them out and it's just a small wire.

And yes everyone has to wear a retainer after braces and usually for a few years. If you don't your teeth will definately move back to the way they were before.

  9. yeah i'm pretty sure.

my cousin recently got his braces off and got retainers but he only has to wear the retainers for a year
