My aunt told me that she is not going to call the Orthodontist because i have ambesol similar to Orajel and tylenol at home. My teeth are not hurting. It is my gums because i have train track braces. And the upper and lower wires cut into my gums and causing sores and hurting. And my braces are starting to get stuck to my gums. Like pinching my gums and hurting. Is this normal And what can i do to ease the pain?

  1. Show your Aunt the text from the Anbesol Extra web site

If the one you have is just Anbesol then it only contains half the Benzocaine [painkiller]

I still recommend Tylenol with Codeine [Tylenol 2 & 3] as mentioned on the other link under products

Ask your Aunt to consider the extra Codeine version so you can at least sleep easier at night.  Sleep promotes healing too.

  2. Braces are painful. They really are. My cousin used to cry even when he had his tightened because they were very painful. The only thing you can do is take Tylenol. The pain will subside when you get used to it. In the end, it will all be worth it, I promise.

  3. This is normal.  What you need is dental wax to put on the sharp points which are cutting your gums, the insides of your jaws, or even cutting your lips and tongue.  They gave me the wax at the orthodontist office, and I also found it at the toothpaste section at Wal-Mart or any store like that.  Wax was my best friend when I had braces.  Lol, you can even make your own with a candle at home.  Just heat up some wax and mold it around the area where you are having problems and it will give you relief until you can get some.  Also take some advil, ibuprofen, or motrin.  Tylenol doesn't work good because it's not an anti-inflammatory medication, which is what you need for the gum pain.  Good Luck!
