Question:

Braces are removed but I don't have a retainer yet, will my teeth move back to its original position?

I had my braces removed 4 days ago (Monday) and had an appointment for a retainer 3 days after (Thursday). I wasn't able to make it to that day because of a college orientation so they had to re-schedule it to next week (Monday, which seems pretty far considering how I'm worried about my teeth moving around and back again now that I have braces off ).

So anyway, I then noticed the teeth next to the "buck teeth" moving back. Will wearing retainers fix this or does this mean getting braces all over again?

  1. They've been moved into shape by slow, consistent force over a long period of time with those braces - they're not just going to pop back like a rubber band, they're pretty much fixed - they won't move at all on their own at this stage -  so relax.

  2. Hey, dont worry i had to wait a week 4 mine, and they still straight :)

persides if you think they r moving your retainer will sort this out x

  3. the retainers will fix it, they will just be a bit tight at first :)

  4. Just like it takes a long time for braces to move your teeth, it takes them a while to move back. I'm sure you will be fine without a retainer for a week. It is highly unlikely that you will have to get braces again because of a slight shift like the one you mentioned. My mom is a RDAEF and I have grown up in her dental office. Plus I had braces and never really wore my retainer. My teeth did move but it took a long time for that to happen. If you are still concerned mention the shift to your dentist and discuss the options with him.

  5. thats unlucky that you missed your appointment but fitting the retainer should correct that, your teeth are very sensitive right now to moving about, so once that retainer is fitted it will shift the teeth back in no time and then eventually stay in that position.
