Question:

Braces for one year?

I just got my new braces (top/bottom) and the dentist said that i'm going to have to wear them for 12 months (18 at the most).

I have braces just to straighten/rotate some of my teeth. Most people i know have to wear braces for at least 2 years.

So this sounds too good lol...should i trust the dentist that it's just going to take ONE year?

  1. I have had braces for a year. and they said it would take 2. but i have to wear these rubber bands. and if i wear them i'll get them off in a few months. so usally they are pretty close.

  2. i was told 3, it took 6 years.

granted, my teeth were HORRIBLE and look absolutley incredible after, but i sure was mad. where the rubberbands and things they tell you.

  3. It varies according to your age, how fast your teeth move (which varies from person to person), and what needs to be done to your teeth.  As an adult in my thirties with an overbite, the orthodontist estimated my braces would be on for about a year, and my treatment took two and a half years.  My case turned out to be more complicated than they thought.  I wouldn't try to schedule it down to the exact month, but if you're young and your case is simple, your orthodontist is probably pretty close.

  4. It depends on how you cope with your braces.

My dentist said 2 years, but it ended up to be 1 and a half.

  5. The length of time a person wears braces is different for everyone. Part of it depends on your cooperation. If you do your part and keep on the schedule and wear the rubber bands and whatever else you are directed to do, that will only help you.

Your orthodontist has nothing to gain by telling you treatment will take less time than needed. I think you should listen to him and do what he tells you to do.Good luck!
