Braces help im really nervous!!!

ok, im getting braces next week and im really nervous.

do they hurt when they put them on,

how long does it take,

what do they do,

obtw im gettin gtrain tracks - top and bottem

please can you answer my questions - im sooo nervous and i really dont want them but i do at the same time , can u really notice them, do they make ur mouth look funni???

hey getting the braces on doesn't hurt at all, all they are doing is using glue to put them on your teeth, it will be a bit uncomfortable for a few days after but nothing major.
Most people believe that the orthodontist 'tightens' the brace this is not true, they put on thicker wires which applies more pressure to the teeth there is no tightening of anything, which i thought sounded scary.
I have had my braces for nearly 5 years now and the worst pain i have had has been due to the pressure i apply on my bottom lip, apparently this has caused to to develop sores inside my mouth that i have had continuously for about 4 years, if you have this problem ask your orthodontist and they can give you clear strips which clip over the brackets and make them smooth, they are normally give to woodwind instrument players.
When you first get braces yeah your mouth will look and feel funny but after a while you will get used to it and wont notice them anymore, if you want to minimise the apperance of the braces then go for either white or silver bands, i always use silver as they blend in with the rest of the brackets so you don't notice the brace as much, i once tried the white bands but for me they stained really easily, i.e. if you like pasta with tomato sauce i suggest the silver.
generally braces take 1-3 years (apparently i'm a special case, or so my orthodontist tells me) the time will fly past and you'll have great teeth at the end :)
