Question:

Braces matter?

Hi. I live in LA, and I want to be an actress. I've done my research so you won't get any stupid questions, (or at least I hope not.) I sent in my headshot and resume to a couple of agencies, and 4 had gotten back to me about interview/auditions. The first one was Colleen Cler, and I thought I did great at the interview, but I was never contacted back. They asked me how long until my braces came off... the 2nd one, Dedicated, wanted me to take classes at their agency, and their agency only, so I said no because I thought it was a scam. The third agency was the Sharon Kemp Agency, and she said that my braces was a problem for her. She said to come back when they come off and she'll sign me. I have an interview/audition with Affinity Models and Talent Agency on Saturday. Do you think the braces are a big deal? I mean I look good in them, and braces are appropriate for teens my age (13). What is your opinion? Thanks!

  1. braces dont matter in the acting industry all they will do is help you in the future by havent straight nice teeth

  2. i think if you can land a job with your braces that heaps good! but if most of the agencies you've asked have a problem with the braces, it's very likely most of the others will have a problem too.

whatever you do, DONT take off the braces just to land a job. because in the long run, the braces help, and you'll land heaps more jobs with nice straight teeth.

Be confident! remember your gonna get rejected more than accepted, even without braces. good luck.

  3. Great job i love how u dont want to be famous Affinity tallent is great! And yes in a way braces really do matter my friends haent gotten any work since his braces but take this time to practice! **** Luck

  4. Most casting directors do not care whether or not you have braces, casting is based on more the look they want & how well you read, but if you are concerned, you could always check into invisiline if it's not too late.

  5. its okay. A lot of celebs had braces. Like drew barrymoore, zac efron(only 3 weeks) and aqua from the cheetahs...they're not models. but they are in the entertainment bussiness. Drew has alot of covergirl commercials....

  6. My opinion is that you're so freaking lucky to live in LA because that makes getting started so much easier. But as far as your braces go, it's an agent's opinion. It wouldn't be a big deal to me because it shows a kid in real life, but the good news is you will get them off and then you have some agencies who are very interested in you when you do so!

    Good luck on Saturday!!

  7. You've already been told by two agencies that they're a problem, so why do you even need to ask this question? I realize it sounds harsh to hear it, but you likely won't get much serious work until you get them off, unless somebody is casting a role that needs to have braces for whatever reason.

And furthermore, why don't these people who you sent your headshot to already know that you have braces? Something that affects your look in such a drastic way should be shown in your headshot. The entire point of having a headshot is to show what you look like, and having braces is a pretty significant part of how you look. Hiding something like that will do you no favors, as there's no hiding the braces once you actually get called into an audition.

You've pretty much got three options at this point: wait to work until the braces come out, remove them entirely, or look into a more subtle way to straighten your teeth (like with the clear invisalign).

  8. You've already been told by two agencies that they're a problem, so why do you even need to ask this question?

  9. 13 is a bit young, you are still maturing....maybe when you're 15 left scam artists and stuff like that will happen to you.  Yes braces are a kinda big deal do you see any stars with them? Besides that I'm sure you're perfect, just be careful because the arts are a very hard career to get into

    Good Luck :)

  10. well if your going to be a caracter in a show they are not going to want you to have braces on one show and not on another.

  11. Hmmm well it really depends what you want to audition for. I think they would be fine i mean there are tons of actresses with braces

  12. Braces are definitely a problem if you are looking to be successful in a world where your look is almost everything.  Wait a few years, and go back.

  13. I don't see very many, if any actresses with braces. But, don't give up. There might be a role out there that requires someone with braces or your acting might be so good that the agency might be willing to wait until they are removed, then call you back.

  14. I think braces are cute for young teens, but the media is stuck on "the look". If the agencies want a girl with braces in their photo shoots, all they have to do is make her some fake ones. I am sure the agencies want you to be versetile, and not just stuck on ONE look. Keep trying. There might be an agency out their who feels you have too much potentiol to let go.  Practice. Practice. Practice. And do not give up.

  15. I can guarentee with braces u can just cut modeling out of your talents.

  16. If these agencies are saying that the braces are a factor then they are...

But your parents have made sure that you have these for a very good reason...deferred gratification is key...the braces should stay, because think what the alternative would be...

I'm in the UK and you know what you Americans think of our teeth...dentists are a rare breed in this country lol So, think of your Hollywood smile in the future and how that combined with your obvious talent will make all the difference...Good luck!

  17. I have braces too and yeah they matter to agents because not many roles require a person with braces think about it have you ever seen an actor on like a show with teens in it that has braces?(ugly betty doesn't count) so either you will want to switch to plays until your braces are off  or you might have beter luck if you switch to cermamic braces which i wouldn't do that would be expensive because they already or more expensive than regular braces and you would have to get all yours taken off and new put on.sorry but good luck just you will probably have to wait until you get them off!:(

(http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?... maybe you could answer my question that would be amazing)

EDIT:why were you wondering if you are getting them off in a few months thats not very long to wait...hope to see you in a movie sometime :)lol

  18. yeah , wait till you get them off

for an agent go to talentagents.blogspot.com and scroll down till you find city nearest you

read everythign you see! and click on words in blue but not double udnerlined ones and i suggest that you sign up with alan baltes go to first site and look at right column it explains everything! he wont be an agent just help you out and its a one time fee of 30 dollars and totally worth it!

  20. well, ya they matter. Who's gonna hire an actress with braces? uNless you're audtioning for the next Ugly Betty

  21. first of all - just go back to that agency when the braces come off. she told you to right!? then you'll be signed so don't worry if they're a problem, they won't be in a few months.

---here's a question for you if you could email me at xxkshr0xx@aim.com---

what experience do you have on your resume? acting class-wise and also any roles you've taken on. i want to see when i should start sending my headshots + resumes to agencies - so if you could email me thanks :D

  22. heyy.. well you answered my question and i emailed you...(: so i gues ill answer yours..

okay well for modeling it might be a bit of a problem but it all depends on the agengy but until you get them off you can try invisiline or try going for a clear color(:  hope this helps and email me back!!!

  23. In agencies.....appearance matters a lot. They like the perfect looking models.....even though theres not one person out there. They probably are wondering about your smile, so they want to get back to you without your braces, idk y lol braces shouldnt matter, but yeah lol, thats agenciess.

  24. You have a great opportunity, so go for it. Braces are absoulutly NO BIG DEAL!!! If you want straight teeth, you have to have them!! And hey, if you're a great actress, who cares what's in your mouth!!

  25. Firstly, ur relly lucky to be living in LA. Secondly, I also have braces and i know that in the future it will help u and me and all those ppl who wanna b actors/ actresses. Im almost 13 but i think that braces wont do anything. I bet alot of those actors/ actresses have braces. Ur smile will just be straighter and picture perfect. And btw braces r appropriate for 13 year olds cuz my sisters frend is 8 and getting braces ( poor her) . well hoped i helped :) Good luck with ur interview

  26. i have braces and im 13! i dnt think braces matter its just rellie if u have the talent and passioon 4 it! i just got in a rellie gud acting school becasue of my passion & talent 4 it. wen i wuz interviewd she rellie didnt pay any attention 2 da braces but 2 my talent. so if it shows that u rellie have talent they wuldnt care if u have braces or not. so eventhough i have braces im still going to follow my dream and so shuld u! h0ope this helps! && gud luck! =D

  27. dakota fanning has braces now. she has a clear color so i dont think it will because in the future youll have a nice bright smile. i think they would be happy you have braces. but if yoour not sure get an agent ask him and if he/she says no then say ok then ill wait until i get them off. :]
