I've had my braces for almost a year and had to start wearing bands about 6 months ago. I didn't wear them that much (mainly I just wore them at night.) in the beginning and now for about the past 3 months I've started wearing 4 bands instead of 1 or 2 (I need more bands in some places then others.) Will wearing 4 bands instead of 1 or 2 help me get my braces off sooner??

  1. No, there won't be a huge difference in time. But you should've worn your bands when your orthodontist told you to.

  2. I'm very surprised by the answers so far, because the 4 bands helped me IMMENSELY. My orthodontist was happy how quick and well it worked for me.

And, for me, it did help me to get my braces off sooner due to how well it worked. My friend didnt wear her bands, and had to have her braces an extra whole year.

  3. Best thing to do: wear the bands where and when your orthodontist tells you to.

I don't really think that wearing more bands will help get them off sooner because your mouth will rely on the bands to align your teeth (for example) instead of actually correcting your midline and training your mouth.

I would ask your orthodontist about it. Let him/her know that you are willing to wear more bands and see if they suggest it.

  4. No, it won't. And if you don't wear your rubberbands during the day they will move right back. You have to wear your rubberbands ALL THE TIME. It will be worth it in the end.
