  1. stay away from the foods your ortho tells you to stay away from. theres a reason theyre telling you to stay away from them! breaking brackets and bending wires will only cause a longer treatment time.

if youg et elastics, wear them! EXACTLY how your ortho tells you to. this goes with teh retainers youll get afterwards.

if you need to fix your jaw alignment, it has to be fixed perfectly before you get them braces off!

brush and floss very well to prevent gingivitis. flossing is a pain in the neck, but practice makes perfect! i used to time myself how long i would take to floss and wiht a week i was actually pretty good at doing it efficently.

make sure you go to all your ortho appts. if you dont, you wont get your braces off!

for pain, take whatever painkiller works best for you. you can even pop one before your appt starts.my ortho also told me that eating/drinking cold things after you get them tightened can help prevent the severity of the pain. so go run out and get a milkshake!!

donmt be afraid to ask your orthodontist questions..

also dont hold on too tightly to what your ortho says about when your braces may come off. for example he may say: "about 6 months left", but tis probably gonna be logner than that!

also, when youg et them off you may notice yellow stains on your teeth. you may even see them now. dont worry, its jsut the dried glue on your teeth that hold the brackets on. after youg et you rbace soff book an appt for the dentist and theyll take off all of it for you! dont worry about going and buyin some fancy whitening system.

  2. 1) Take a few painkillers when you go to get them tightened.

    2) Use the wax they gave you on points that are poking the inside of your mouth.  You can also get it at a drugstore

    3) No, sticky candy. No candy apples. No chips, No gum.  These thing totally damage braces.

    4) If you jar your mouth (like get punched in the face) let the orthodontist know.  This can shift your whole set up and your teeth will grow incorrectly.

    5) Brush more than you normally do.  It stinks (literally) when food gets stuck in there.

    Good Luck!!

  3. When you just get them on, they feel really weird for a few days but after that your teeth should go back to feeling normal. Make sure you eat foods that are soft, not chewy because it will really hurt your teeth if you dont. Even though the ortho says not to chew gum, you can still chew gum, because I have them now and chew gum all the time and never broke a brace. & when they give you rubber bands, WEAR THEM!

    good luck!

  4. i have had braces now for 6 months and have completely gotten used to them. for the first few days after you get them on, your teeth will ache, and the only thing you can really do about this is to eat soft food (when i first got minne, i pracitally lived on soup).

be extra carefull about eating things like corn and apple as these can cause the brace to break from your teeth. Ice-cream is sometimes hard to eat as the beceause the metal from thee braces gets extra cold!!

it is difficult at first but dont worry,, at teh end of it all, you will have a brilliant smile!!!

  5. Here's a GREAT site that tells u just about EVERYTHING! so i hope it helps:

    http://www.archwired.com/4_-_living.htm

Make  sure to check out all the pages...

It has what food to eat, what to carry with you, and other info. I LOVE this site

  6. I had braces for 3 years. During the first week that you get them, try not to eat anything hard, because it will hurt. My suggestions: soups, yogurts, puddings, oatmeal, applesauce, and tofu.

Until you are used to your braces, I suggest you don't chew gum or eat anything sticky, as it can get caught and damage the wires.

    Brush your teeth REALLY well.

  7. take painkillers and wear that wax. the wax is like the life savor for your mouth.

    good luck :]

  8. as long as you do what the ortho says and take care of your teeth you will be fine

  9. Basically i just take painkillers for a while after i have them tightened, sleep a lot, and eat mushy foods.  other than that, you just don;t think about it as much, and  you'll live. get fun colours too.  it always helps me!  I get them off in september/october, and i will have had them for about 2 years.  good luck!

  10. this might sound gross but try to keep sucking in your saliva, if you don't you could accidentally spit on someone your talking to.

I remember when I got my braces on, they were sore for 3 days. But if you ever find yourself completely hating them and wishing you never get them try to think about how pretty and straight your teeth are gonna be. That's what I did and now that I have them off I love to smile all the time.

    Good luck ;)
