Bracewell, Ryder break protocol, dropped for upcoming ODI – Cricket News Update
New Zealand’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Auckland-c766, following their breach of team protocol.
After the Black Caps’ were defeated by the visitors in the 2nd ODI held at McLean Park, Napier, on February 29, Bracwell and Ryder went to a nearby hotel to consume alcohol, after which they were involved in a tussle with a patron of the establishment.
“Team protocols dictate that players who are rehabilitating from injury should not consume alcohol and unfortunately both players went to a Napier hotel following the conclusion of the match,” the New Zealand Cricket board said in an official statement.
The two cricketers in question have currently been recovering from injuries. All-rounder Ryder had slit the webbing on his hand during the match in Napier, while 21-year-old Bracewell was under treatment for a tight hamstring.
“Further to the issue of breaking team protocols related to their preparation, we are disappointed they [Ryder and Bracewell] become involved in a verbal argument with a patron,” Mike Sandle, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 team manager, said.
While this was Bracewell’s first instance of disorderly conduct, Ryder is no stranger to controversy – he was fined for behaving inappropriately while under influence in August 2010, and this was followed by a more serious incident in 2008, after he put
his hand through a glass window in a state of intoxication.
With both players in a precarious enough position already (in regards to their performances in recent matches), their recent conduct has only added to their misfortunes.
The young medium pacer had a good outing in the Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 on January 26, during which he claimed 5 scalps. However, it was a downward slide into mediocrity after that, as he failed to shine in the limited-overs series against the Rhodesians,
and managed just 2 wicket in four innings during the current series against the Proteas.
Ryder only recently made his return to the national squad following his recovery from a calf muscle injury, and made a pronounced comeback, scoring 52 in the T20 against SA on February 22. However his scores in the ODIs (0, 6) have been far from impressive.
According to the team manager, however, both players are remorseful.
“Both players have apologised for their actions and said they fully understood the consequences,” Sandle said.
