Brad Barritt has undergone eye surgery – Rugby News Update
Brad Barritt, the 25-year-old Saracens and England centre had a time to forget on his return to Durban, where he started off his rugby career with the Sharks. Barritt injured his eye, and he confirmed that he has gone through a minor surgery on the swelling
to his left eye.
England is currently on tour to South Africa where they are playing the Springboks in a three-match test series, along with playing with two midweek games. Having lost the first test at Durban, 22 – 17, they are looking towards the midweek clash against
the South African Barbarians (South), and on the weekend they play the Springboks at Johannesburg.
Barritt however, will not be part of the squad that plays on the weekend, but he will be joining up the team in the city. He needs a few days to recover, and England is also sweating on the fitness of Mike Brown, the fullback, who is out with a hand injury.
Stuart Lancaster, the head coach of England, is adamant that his team can bounce back and needs to execute their game plan a little better. Speaking after the defeat, he said, "The boys are certainly very positive and the good thing is we have already seen
one or two areas we can fix up. The players are talking about it already and that is a good sign. They are not downcast and they are feeling there is no chance of turning up next week and not winning. If anything, this will be their motivation to right the
wrongs we did in this game.”
He further added, “Composure was probably the key word that we need to work on - make sure we play in the right place at the right time...”
Lancaster was full of praise for the English doctors who responded early to the injury sustained by Barritt.
Barritt made his debut for the Sharks but moved to the Saracens in the Aviva Premiership in 2008. He made his England debut against Scotland at Murrayfield, on February 4, 2012. So far he has made 6 appearances for the country, starting all the games.
