Brad Fritsch shares the lead at the Chiquita Classic
Brad Fritsch of Canada maintained his great form in the second round of the Chiquita Classic and surged to the top of the leaderboard on Friday, September 28, 2012.
The Web.com Tour event is being played at The Club at Longview in Weddington, North Carolina.
On day one, Fritsch recorded a total of two eagles and six birdies. In the meantime, he also conceded five bogeys, en route to a six-under par opening-round score.
Talking to the reporters on Thursday, he showed his disappointment on losing too many shots. According to him, he tried to attack the pins throughout the day, which cost him in the end, in the form of bogeys.
Therefore, he tried not to use the same strategy in the second round and played a safe game. It seemed as if he was trying to hit as many greens in regulation as he could.
As a result, he received a number of birdie chances, which he availed to post an impressive score on the leaderboard.
He started off on the back nine of the course and birdied two of the first three holes that he played, prior to losing the only shot of the day on the par-three 15th hole.
On the 17th hole, he sank the ball for a sparkling eagle, his third of the tournament so far, and followed it with a birdie to reach the turn in 32 strokes.
"Three eagles in two days, that doesn't happen very often to anyone. I've got to consider myself a little bit fortunate in that way,” he said.
“It's a course where you can really get it going, especially on the par-4s. In my practice rounds, I thought the par-5s were really going to play hard this week, but I'm 10-under on them for two days”.
“I'll just see if I can keep it going. If you can put the ball in play off the tee, it really allows you to attack these par-4s because the greens are receptive and in great shape," Fritsch added.
His front-nine performance was even better, as he did not make a single mistake, and earned another four shots.
Later in the day, Russell Henley also joined him on the leaderboard, after posting a seven-under par 65.
