Brad Haddin ranked as number 1 keeper for Australia by Tim Paine
Tim Paine has made a very stunning progress in the Australian side but the young wicketkeeper said that Brad Haddin still remains the number 1 wicketkeeper. The Australian selectors announced that Paine will be the vice-captain of the team which will play
two Twenty20s against England.
Paine was preferred over the in-form Australian wicketkeeper Haddin who scored some good runs in the Ashes series. After the series was lost, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 decided to quit Twenty20 cricket in order to concentrate on Tests and ODIs. Cameron White was named
as the captain for the shortest version of the game soon after and Paine as his deputy.
Commenting on being selected ahead of Haddin, Paine said, “Brad has obviously been playing some pretty good cricket in the Ashes - he's still the No.1 'keeper in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. They (selectors) just want to have a look at some of the younger players with an
eye on the future, that's the way I see it.”
Many former players in Australia criticized the ageing Australian team and said that some fresh blood should be injected in the side. This may be one of the reasons of Paine's selection in the Twenty20s.
Paine stated, “It was a shock to be even picked - I certainly did not expect the vice-captaincy.”
He further said, “They have taken this opportunity with the Twenty20 coming up to blood a few guys and try a few different things. I am just lucky enough to be one of those guys and I am looking forward to it.”
Paine had a mixed few months after he made his Test debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in July at Lords. He had an injury when he returned to Australia. Looking back at that time, he said, “It has been a rollercoaster ride, the last few months. To make my Test debut
was very exciting and something I had worked a long time for, so to come home and have that injury on the eve of such an important summer was disappointing.”
Paine is looking forward to put the English team on the back-foot after the two Twenty20s. Both the teams will be playing the Twenty20 series starting from 12th January followed by the ODI series.
