Brad Hawpe’s double RBIs help San Diego Padres defeat Houston Astros 6-3 – MLB Update
San Diego Padres’ first baseman, Brad Hawpe was extraordinary throughout the game as he went 1-for-2 and posted one run with two RBIs in the Padres’ 6-3 victory against the Houston Astros at Petco Park, San Diego on June 4.
The Padres’ batters scored two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Chase Headley and Ryan Ludwick posted two runs on the double-run shot of Hawpe towards deep right-field. On the other side, the Astros got off the mark during the second inning and
reduced the lead 2-1 when Chris Johnson scored a single run and Brett Wallace occupied third base.
At the top of the third inning, Clint Barmes hit a solo homer (367 feet) towards left-field to tie the game. However, the Padres went ahead 3-2 at the bottom of the third when Logan Forsythe doubled to left-field and Ludwick added one run.
The pitchers controlled the scoring of the batters by pitching beautifully in perfect areas. No run was contributed from the fourth to seventh inning as the batters got out on their sluggish shots. Forsythe said, “It feels real good. It was a big situation,
it put us up, and it's even nicer with two outs. I got a pitch and tried to be aggressive. That's what I'm trying to get my swing to, is a little bit more aggressive.”
The Padres’ starter, Aaron Harang was economical throughout his six inning pitches as he threw the ball with an ERA of 3.77 and gave two runs on six hits including two earned runs. He had three strike-outs and permitted two walks on his 99 pitches. Harang
expressed his excitement and said, “I don't really focus on that. Yeah, it is nice to be able to get that kind of niche off my back that I wasn't healthy the last couple years. I just wasn't pitching well.”
In the eighth inning, the Padres smashed three runs. Alberto Gonzalez singled to centre-field, Ludwick scored his second run and Gonzalez advanced to third base on a throwing error. The second and third run was taken by Hawpe and Gonzalez on the single-run
shot of Rob Johnson towards left-field. The Padres were leading 6-2 at the end of the eighth inning.
The Astros were able to add just one run in the ninth inning to cut their shortfall 6-3 when Michael Bourn doubled to deep left position and Angel Sanchez contributed one run for his team.
