Victorian batsman Brad Hodge has said that he is surprised by all the talks over his selection to the Australian squad for the one-day internationals against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. Hodge, who started the one-day domestic
season with a couple of centuries has often been overlooked for the Australian international squads and had recently announced his retirement from the first class cricket to concentrate on the shorter version of the game.
Hodge said that he had booked a holiday around the same time as the Australian side will take on Sri Lanka in the limited overs fixtures. He said, "I've booked a holiday to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, so if it coincides
with that I might have to knock that opportunity back,”
However, he did add that the speculation was ‘baffling’. He added: “But I guess my performance speaks volumes and that's where it's come from.”
Hodge also said, "I don't really sit there any more and digest how I'm going to represent Australia, put it that way. All I really think about is what sort of sauce I'm going to put with my sirloin and whether
I'm going to have a shiraz or a pinot noir."
Hodge, who is 35 and arguably in the twilight of his career, averaged 56 in Test match cricket before he was dropped after playing six Tests and never picked up again. He did get 25 opportunities in the ODIs
but managed only 575 at an average of 30 before he had last played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 2007.
It is not as if he does not have support from various quarters. Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 CEO James Sutherland had earlier said, "I would hate to think he's out of contention because clearly he's one of the form
players in the country at the moment".
Hodge also acknowledged that while it felt good to have the support of all the Victorians, he knew that what mattered was what the captain and the selectors thought of him.
